Van Basten II Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 Van Basten, I am almost positive that they ship only to the US, because they ship via Media Mail rate which I believe is good only in the US. Well to quote Fats Domino, Ain't that a shame... Quote

Aggie87 Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 I can't figure out how to search for the BMG thread (since BMG is three letters, and too short for the current search process), so I'm posting this one here: BMG sale - 65% off w/no shipping - AU06PM2 This is good for double disc sets. Most appear to be $8-10 or so, shipped. Quote
Big Al Posted August 29, 2006 Author Report Posted August 29, 2006 Thanks for posting that. My current deal is 67% off w/free shipping but only if you buy five discs. So far, I could only come up with three. Quote
T.D. Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) The discs listed by Aggie87 have surfaced at yourmusic.com, though I can't vouch for every title. "Boston Blow-Up" is now next in my queue. Since I joined yourmusic.com, my BMG account has become inactive. Only the BMG $1.99 clearance CDs are cheap enough. Edited August 29, 2006 by T.D. Quote
Noj Posted August 29, 2006 Report Posted August 29, 2006 TD, keep an eye out for BMG offering $6.33 discs with free shipping when you order 5 or more. Basically yourmusic prices. That's the only time I've used my BMG account since joining yourmusic. Quote

Uncle Skid Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 NEW! JAZZ! Thanks for posting that... I've almost purchased both the Shepp and Ayler "Impulse Story" discs (as I have very little of both artists) at regular prices. Now that I can get them for $5.99, it might make the decision easier. or not... I usually regret buying compilation CDs, as I usually end up wanting all of the individual recordings. Quote
Tjazz Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 Thanks for posting that. My current deal is 67% off w/free shipping but only if you buy five discs. So far, I could only come up with three. You can get the Count Basie 2-CDs for $6.66 or any of the Centenial Collection (CD/DVD) sets for $6.66. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted September 4, 2006 Report Posted September 4, 2006 The McLean release looks very interesting. Anyone want to comment on this one? Don't know much about the Blakey release either. Quote
DMP Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 To respond to the above... The McLean is one of the best - a grabber from note one! Up to now, you needed the Mosaic box just for this. Everyone is at the top of their respective games on this one. The Blakey is another story. Lots of drumming. I probably have a hundred Blakey albums, and this is one I rarely (if ever) put on. But for six bucks, you might want to take a chance, it will probably be out of print in a year and you'll kick yourself. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 That would be how I would call those two as well. I paid a lot of dollars for the TOCJs of the Blakey, two of them! And then I later found two other copies that I passed along at cost to a board member. They're definitely worth the 6 dollar investment, mainly for the few NON drum corps pieces. Interesting to hear. . . I doubt you'll play this disc over and over and over day after day! Quote
Tjazz Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 (edited) The Blakey is another story. Lots of drumming. Not for your average jazz buyer. It was originally on 2 separate albums. Vol. 1 & vol. 2. Later on 2 separate CDs. (Japan only) Donald Byrd does play trumpet on a few songs and Ray Bryant is also on piano. (not all drum solos) Now you can buy all the music combined (8 tracks, about 68 minutes) on a single CD for $5.99 Clearance priced. Edited September 7, 2006 by Tjazz Quote
Big Al Posted September 7, 2006 Author Report Posted September 7, 2006 Ordered that with the Mclean & Evans. For that price, it's worth the curiosity! Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 A few that I've noticed that I don't think have been mentioned in this thread: Elvis Costello/Alvin Toussaint - River in Reverse Medeski Martin & Wood - Note Bleu (CD/DVD deluxe edition) Vijay Iyer/Rudresh Mahanthappa - Raw Materials Regina Carter - I'll Bee Seeing You: A Sentimental Journey Jane Monheit - The Season Dead Man Walking Soundtrack (Deluxe Edition w/concert DVD) Harry Nillson - Everybody's Talkin'/Very Best of Jefferson Airplane - The Worst Of (remaster) v/a - Strummin' with the Devil (click the sound samples to hear some unintentionally (?) funny David Lee Roth) Hot Tuna - Keep on Truckin'/Best of Boston - Boston & Don't Look Back (remasters) Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend (Legacy Ed.) Depeche Mode - Violator (CD/DVD) Quote
Big Al Posted September 13, 2006 Author Report Posted September 13, 2006 Also Sonic Youth RATHER RIPPED which, IMHO, is their best album since DAYDREAM NATION. There've been lots of great albums since then, but not a one of them was as strong start-to-finish like RR. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Does anybody have an opinion of Harry Nillson? He sure got a lot of publicity budget behind him when I was in college, but other than the song from Midnight Cowboy and Me and My Arrow, I'm not aware of anything he did. Should I pick up his Best of album? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I know you are a sucker for compilations but it's best to hear Harry's songs in proper sequence. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 I see that BMG has a couple of new listings today that I am interested in - the latest from Michael Franks and Pat Martino's tribute to Wes Montgomery. Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 6, 2006 Report Posted October 6, 2006 Seems like it's been a dry well for a while again, but I just noticed the following: Charles Lloyd - Sangam Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Unknown Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim Lou Rawls - Best of Capitol Jazz & Blues Sessions Cream - Royal Albert Hall (2cd) Stevie Ray Vaughan - The Essential SRV (2 cd) T Bone Burnett - Twenty Twenty/best of (2 cd) Keb Mo - Suitcase Quincy Jones - From Q with Love (2 cd) Quincy Jones - Back on the Block Johnny Guitar Watson - Best of the Funk Years Candi Staton - His Hands Ben Harper - Both Sides of the Gun (2 cd) Smokey Robinson - Timeless Love Frank Black - Fast Man Raider Man v/a - The Best of Miami Vice Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Just noticed Brad Mehldau's "House on Hill" listed. This is the last recording with Rossy on drums, before Ballard joined the trio. Quote
