Guy Berger Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 I always think it takes about 6 months or a year for new releases to show up on y ourmusic.com (bmgmusic). Sooner, if the music doesn't sell. ← Assuming that yourmusic (and BMG) are part of a market segmentation strategy, what you just said makes sense. Guy Quote

GA Russell Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 I'm waiting for the Monk/Coltrane at Carnigie Hall. ← Me too. Really, I'm holding off because I expect that one relative or another will give it to me for Christmas, and I don't want the hassle of exchanging it at a store. (I live over 20 miles from the nearest record store, a Borders.) I'm also holding off because I'm pretty much Monked out. I have so much of his stuff that I've listened to so much over the years that I didn't expect to ever buy anything more by him again. I'm sure that I will get this new CD, but I can wait till after Christmas, when Your Music will probably have it, if I'm not given it for a present. Quote

GA Russell Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 (edited) Greg, there are some advantages to living in the country, but I'm not sure I made the right move three years ago. A round trip to the Borders would today cost me four dollars in gasoline! I enjoyed my country home in Georgia a lot more. But the people here have treated me well, as they did there, so I can't complain. edit for spelling Edited October 19, 2005 by GA Russell Quote
J Larsen Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 On the flip side, I live within walking distance of at least a dozen record stores, including Other Music and Downtown Music Gallery, and that costs me a lot more than four bucks a day! Quote
md655321 Posted October 21, 2005 Report Posted October 21, 2005 Any reccomendations for some good 'out' music? I need to fulfill my BMG membership, but there is a ton that I REALLY want. I already have all the Cecil, Ornette stuff on there. Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Just noticed another new ECM: Dino Saluzzi/Jon Christensen - Senderos Anybody have this? I'm not familiar with Saluzzi, but the AMG write-up is very complimentary. Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Couple more new ones showed up today: Garage A Trois - Outre Mer Sarah Vaughn - After Hours at the London House Dinah Washington - I Wanna Be Loved Jimmy Witherspoon/Brother Jack McDuff - The Blues is Now Dr. John - Best of Parlophone Years Allman Bros - Live from American University 12/13/70 Quote
GregK Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Couple more new ones showed up today: Allman Bros - Live from American University 12/13/70 ← Surprised they have this one. It was out of print for a few years, up until this summer. Makes you wonder why they dont have the other two titles in this series Quote
WD45 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 One that I would recommend is Emiliana Torrini's second album, Fisherman's Woman. Listen to some samples. Top notch singer-songwriter. And I don't lend a lot of time to that, generally... Quote
Aggie87 Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Greg Osby - Channel Three Jimmy Smith - At the Organ Vol 3 ...hoping a few more of the RVGs show up later today! Quote
sjarrell Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Looks like the July batch of RVGs got skipped. The JOS is an August one. Crap! Quote
bertrand Posted October 31, 2005 Report Posted October 31, 2005 Refresh my memory - which were in July and which were in August? Thanks, Bertrand. Quote

Ron S Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 At least we can still get the newer RVG's at AllDirect.com for $7.99 each. Not as good as yourmusic.com, but better than most. Quote

Aggie87 Posted November 1, 2005 Report Posted November 1, 2005 I just got a cancellation notice again for the Legacy edition of "Round About Midnight". So I went back to re-order it (again), hoping it might actually stick this next time, but it appears this title is no longer available through yourmusic, or BMG now. Quote
GA Russell Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 I received this today: Charles Mingus: Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus is no longer available and has been removed from your Music Queue. Quote
md655321 Posted November 2, 2005 Report Posted November 2, 2005 Today mine said I had to order Mother Ship soon because it might not be available. So it is now my selection for the month. Bummer on the Mingus. Quote
