Jim R Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 What a coincidence. I was just going to search for this thread. I received my copy in today's mail, and it looks beautiful (can't wait to read it). Just going through the first couple of pages took my breath away. Quote
marcello Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 (edited) It's a wonderful book; full of detailed information about the man and his music. One of the great aspects of the book is Desmond's strong bond with his father, who was a composer, and the reproduction of their letters to each other through the years. Also, Doug Ramsey's blog site is a nice place to visit on the web:Rifftides Edited July 12, 2005 by marcello Quote
sidewinder Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 I noticed in NYC that some branches of Barnes and Noble were stocking it. If I'd had room in my luggage I would have picked up a copy. Ah well.. Quote
jazzkrow Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 (INQUIRING MINDS WANNA' KNOW ) What's the best shipped price around for the Desmond book? I heard Barnes and Noble has the book for 30% off. Maybe that's the way to go-probably will be awhile before there are many used mint (reviewers) copies around?..... Quote
brownie Posted July 20, 2005 Report Posted July 20, 2005 I have the book on order from Barnes and Noble. It's on its way. Total cost including express shipping to France is $45! Amazon.fr had this item at something like $129 (with probably shome shipping added). And that was for one of those 'used mint' copy! Quote
brownie Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 The package was delivered today, three days after I put in my order! Very impressive Bad news was the French customs people who decided to add a $20 bill for opening the package and check what was inside And me who thought this did not happen with book shipments from the USA! Had a quick peek at the Ramsey book. Looks mighty awesome. Will read it when I get to southern France later this month! Quote
robviti Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 $31.50 with free shipping in the u.s. from barnes & noble. Quote
Jim R Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 $31.50 with free shipping in the u.s. from barnes & noble. ← Wow- I figured some good deals would come along (after I paid full price), but that borders (no pun intended) on the ridiculous. Anybody who's even the least bit tempted to get this really ought to jump on that offer before they change their mind. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 16, 2014 Report Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) For the cheapskates amongst us, Amazon UK currently have this available in Kindle format for £9.99. Just pounced on it (finally)... Edited October 16, 2014 by sidewinder Quote
Sandman Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 As I'm sure will be noted on Doug Ramsey's superb blog tomorrow morning, tomorrow is the 90th anniversary of Paul Desmond's birth. Not that any excuse is necessary, but this is a great excuse to read the biography or listen to Take Ten (or anything Desmond) again. Quote
ghost of miles Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Doug is a guest on this week's Night Lights show, which is devoted to Desmond's recordings after the Brubeck quartet disbanded at the end of 1967. Quote
