riverrat Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I'm thinking of rejoining the BMG club. I'm looking at the Creedence catalog. When BMG lists them as "remastered" does this mean the latest SACD hybrids? Given that they have the Bill Evans SACD listed as such (and not available as a free selection to new members) I am suspicious that the CCR titles are not the SACDs but earlier remasterings. Does anyone know for sure? Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 The Bill Evans is the Fantasy SACD. They carry a few. The CCR discs are standard CDs, not the SACDs. Kevin Quote
J.A.W. Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Get the CCR hybrid SACDs, they're remastered by Steve Hoffman and superior to any other version. Quote
Parkertown Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 I just pulled the trigger on the 7 Steps box from yourmusic.com. How could I resist at that price? Alice Coltrane's Translinear Light is coming too, and my music queue will be sending me Velvet Revolver today. Seems like an awesome deal to me. Perhaps I can finally get a 'real' copy of Trane's Heavyweight Champion box. $41.93 as well...Man that's hard to pass up...gotta wait a little while though... And I bet those CCRs are the latest K2 remasters. They blow chunks compared to the DCC golds, which were the best until the new AP SACDs. The problem with all of the CCR discs not mastered by Steve Hoffman is that they use the equalized tapes, not the true masters. These EQ'ed tapes have way too much treble and make them very fatiguing at high volumes. The DCCs or the new SACDs you can crank them as loud as you want and they can take it!!! B-) Quote

riverrat Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 Thanks for the info folks. I will fill out my initial order with something other than CCR titles. Quote

That's cool, even though I completely disagree about the sound quality of those CCR K2's! (But then, what do I know? For me, the only way to hear CCR is high-trebly ridiculously-distorted!!! I may change my mind if I ever hear those Hoffman-mastered discs, though!) Edited December 31, 2004 by Big Al Quote

scottb Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 The latest Conns are available. I've got the Hill and the Young. Are any of the others worth picking up? Quote
Big Al Posted January 5, 2005 Author Report Posted January 5, 2005 The latest Conns are available. I've got the Hill and the Young. Are any of the others worth picking up? Jack Wilson's EASTERLY WINDS is my favorite of the bunch!!! Having said that, and mind you I’m not complaining one bit, but I don’t understand why BMG gets all the Conns, but have hardly any of the latest RVGs. I mean, from an accounting standpoint, it would seem to me that there’s less of a risk involved in getting the cheaper RVGs than the more expensive Conns. But make no mistake: I’m certainly glad they have the Conns! Makes me wish I’d waited on the Hill and the Wilson. Ah well; it was money well spent! Quote

I can't believe this-I gave up on thisever showing up in BMG and went ahead and got all the discs through Columbia House using some of my bonus points and 3 for 1 sales. I wish I understood how and when and why they get certain titles Quote
Tjazz Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) Great deal on the Dylan Box. At $6/CD, gotta love it! I'll have to pick it up. I got the Miles Davis SEVEN STEPS box and it's sealed with no BMG label markings. Metal side clip too. Noj Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 I tend to avoid those Retrospective things. With Blue Note reissues so abundant, I'd rather have the whole albums. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Well, guys, I just quit BMG. I've been a member since 1997 and my deals have been good but this yourmusic.com is just too good to pass up. I found a link on the Steve Hoffman to join up with $4.99 CDs with no shipping & handling and that clinched the deal. I signed up, copied the 21 CDs I had in my BMG shopping cart into my yourmusic.com "queue" and followed the links on BMG to cancel my membership (not easy to find there). I am now contemplating the Miles Davis "Complete Seven Steps" box for $34.93... or should I get the Dylan box for $79.84? The link to join for $4.99 is: http://a.chtah.com/a/hBBnRfiAT9DbEAT9NMMAEY28iSa/ym1. FYI, currents members using the $5.99 option supposedly can cancel and re-join using this link. Save a buck per CD. Later, Kevin Quote

Uncle Skid Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Posted a few days ago about enrolling in www.yourmusic.com. Well, first bit of bad news is that my order for Ellington's "Piano in the Foreground" and Von Freeman's "The Great Divide" were backordered and CANCELED!  No notice of that either, just checking my account I saw the cancellations. Also, an inquiry I made to them about some other items has gone unanswered. Looks like this might be a short relationship Any new developments? It looks like both of those CDs are now available. I've been thinking about joining (and "Piano in the Foreground" would probably be one of my first purchases), so I was curious if things have gotten any better. Quote
