Tjazz
My latest BMG brochure had box sets at discounted prices. Who was looking for THE COMPLETE ELLA FITZGERALD SONG BOOKS (16cd)? $88.98 (plus shipping charges & taxes) JOHN COLTRANE COMPLETE HEAVYWEIGHT ATLANTIC RECORDINGS (7CD) $44.98 SONNY ROLLINS: COMPLETE PRESTIGE (7CD) $40.98 FRANK SINATRA : COMPLETE REPRISE (20CD) $80.
AfricaBrass
I just meandered into the BMG box sets sections and saw the Clifford Brown Blue Note-Pacific,Grant Green retrospective and Nina Simone sets all at nice prices. I'd appreciate you input as to the music itself and the overall sound quality of these sets.Thanks. Chris, I had the Clifford Brown set and the sound was okay, but I replaced it with the individual RVG's a while back, and I like the RVG's sound better. That Nina Simone set looks interesting... Adam
The Nina Simone box (I assume the Verve/Philips 4 CD set) is an unequivocal delight.
ghost of miles
Some new stuff in clearance, including CANNONBALL AND THE POLL WINNERS, Dave Douglas' A THOUSAND EVENINGS ($1.99) and Paul Desmond's PAUL DESMOND QUARTET LIVE ($3.99). GA Russell
Thanks Ghost! Has anybody heard the Paul Desmond Live album? I've considered getting it, but not if it is a mere shadow of the great stuff he did for RCA.
Big Al
I had it once and it bored me to tears. Long and meandering. But for 5 bucks, that's certainly not a bad price to satisfy yer curiosity. (I just wish it hadn't cost me almost $20 to do the same! )
GA Russell
Thanks Al. I believe that Desmond was already ill when he made that recording, and that may have had something to do with it.
GregK
I've gotten vouchers from BMG for the settlement. If you bought 1-5 at regular price - you get 1 CD at 75% w/ free shipping/handling. ($4.50) Bought 6-10 - you get 2 @ 75% off. Bought 11 or more - you get 3. I will only ask for 1, since I usually cancel after fullfilling my membership. B) how did you get these vouchers? I tried clicking on the link posted above and it redirects me to the sign in page and once i'm signed in i can't find any settlement pages. I have been a member off and on for 4 years, and I've bought plenty of regular priced CDs
Tjazz
The vouchers came in the latest mailings with brochures and other junk mail.

I had the same trouble accessing it at work. I might try to make multiple claims, as I was a member at least three times during that era. We'll see... Tjazz
Besides 2 vouchers, I also got a $13.86 check in the mail from the antitrust suit. BMG is sending 1 of the voucher CDs already, $4.86 total. The Charlie Parker box is on the way and I'm looking forward to that. Also I took advantage of the unlimited 1.99 cd offer to score cd's by Tab Benoit,Bob Dylan,Ike Turner and Cassandra Wilson. Big Al
Their new jazz selection is down to three pages and hasn't had anything noteworthy added since the Conns hit the page a few months back! Hopefully that means a slew of new additions is on the horizon!
Aggie87
Thanks for the heads-up on the $1.99 sale, Chris! I've been waiting for this one for a while. In fact, there are about 20 discs in my shopping cart that have been on hold waiting for this sale (including the Larry Young & Sam Rivers). Avg cost per cd is going to be about $5.68... Now I've gotta wait for a free s/h sale to pick up that Jack Johnson box... -Erik Edited March 31, 2004 by Aggie87
John B
any idea how long the $1.99 sale will last? I'm hoping they will add a few of the newer RVGs before I place my order.
Aggie87
I wouldn't hold my breath. You might get lucky and have them add a few new things before this particular sale is over, but you never know. They don't add titles on a regular basis, apparently. And I'm not sure how long these sales last, either. Not everyone gets the same sales at the same time too. Too many intangibles. But then again, they'll eventually offer this sale in another 3-6 months, and there will likely be titles you'll want then as well, maybe some of the newer RVGs. Aggie87
Just pulled the trigger on my order. I think the $1.99 sale is the best one for purchasing a number of single-disc releases. This order is costing me $6.19 per disc (incl s/h & tax) delivered... They usually sale price box sets for this reason.

chris olivarez
I received the Charlie Parker "Complete Verve Master Takes" today and I haven't had a chance to listen to much of it but I must say so far so good.

They usually sale price box sets for this reason. I know that's generally true, Jazzdog. But apparently every once in a while there is a special offer (usually sent out by email) that offers free shipping AND includes boxes. I believe some folks here have taken advantage of that sale before. Though even with shipping that Jack Johnson box ain't a bad deal at all...
