skeith Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Ernie Krivda is making his first appearance at a New York Jazz club (Sweet Rhythm) this Thursday Jan. 13th-one night only. I suspect the reason it has taken so long for Ernie to venture out is that he's from Cleveland OH and maybe is afraid to fly. This guy is a great tenor and very original - one always knows it's him. He has gotten some acclaim recently for a big band album, which is so uncharacteristic of him. The band he's bringing to NY is a quintet- much better. Ernie, by the way, once caught the eye of one Cannonball Adderley, who dug him so much, he recommended him to , I think it was Quincy Jones's band in the 1960s. Hope some NY area folks can make it. I will be there. Quote
Ed S Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I saw Ernie in Buffalo some time in the early 90s. Excellent show. One of the area jazz radio hosts always referred to him as "the Iron Lung of CLeveland, Ohio" so when I read that he was coming, I had to check him out. Definitely worth checking out, though I suspect the nickname is unofficial. Quote
Larry Kart Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I love Ernie Krivda. Have never met the man, but based on the music of his I've heard on disc, he's absolutely, gloriously nuts. Reminds me a bit of Carmen Leggio in the way he'll pursue a melodic/rhythmic idea to its logical conclusion (in his mind) no matter what, but Krivda is even wilder and shaggier. Quote
jlhoots Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Get the Krivda CDs on CIMP & CJR. Quote
BeBop Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 I'll be there. Just hit town, saw an ad, and committed myself...before catching this thread. Definitely looking forward to it. Quote
