The Fantasy web site now says the release date for these has slipped to "sometime this summer

Concord's priority is getting out, and marketing, their new Debby Boone album, 'Reflections of Rosemary'. They can't be bothered with meeting a release schedule for Coleman Hawkins etc. It's all about priorities. What a mixed up country this is.

With Kamuca and Gordon on the Manne OJC, that makes it at least 3/5ths of the Blackhawk band. If Monty Budwig is on bass, then 4/5ths. I assume Russ Freeman the pianist on this date...yes?

Up over and out.

Still no George Robert - Tom Harrell Quintet Sun Dance issued as an OJC!

A great set on Contemporary from 1987 that never made it to CD.

George Robert - soprano/alto sax

Tom Harrell - trumpet/flugelhorn

Dado Moroni - piano

Reggie Johnson - bass

Bill Goodwin - drums

Hmmmmm.... I recently obtained a sealed copy

of "Sundance" on LP. Haven't opened it yet.

I didn't realize it hasn't been issued on CD yet.

I guess I'd better plan on transferring it to

CD-R before I put any wear on it.

Who knows if it will ever see the light of day

in CD format. These things are dolled out

in very small portions.

For what it's worth, the news about this batch of reissues has been removed from the Fantasy website and replaced by news of a new Sonny Rollins release due out on August 30.

Whether that means they are no longer coming at all, or are coming after August 30, who knows?

Very bad news.

We knew this day was coming soon, but it still hurts. Glad I stocked up on Fantasy over the last few years. Of course, I didn't get every title in the catalog that I could possibly want, but I just don't have the money, space to put it all, or time to listen to it.

Upon whom shall we exact our revenge? B-)

I would suggest Pat Ewing Jr., as he just transferred from IU to Georgetown... but I think that's IU's gain and Georgetown's loss... whomever we choose, perhaps we should enlist this gentleman's assistance?

Unless I'm wrong, it seems like it's been about 6 months since we've seen any OJCs.

Alan's jazz site has these coming out in the Summer along with the K2s. Weren't those also supposed to be out around now?

Yeah, I was hoping "Son of Gunn" would make it out before anything drastic happened to the Fantasy catalog.

When did the last OJC (til now, hopefully!) come out?

I think it was Johnny Griffin's Pisces-- came out in October 2004.

What about these OJCs which came out recently:

Duke Pearson - Dedication

Wilbur Ware - Chicago sound

Jimmy Woods - Awakening

Teddy Charles - Evolution and Coolin'

or don't they count?

I've noticed all the OJCs being highlighted on Dustygroove-- wonder if this isn't a sign of discounting/inventory clearance by the new owners?

Could just as well mean the bastards want to profit on all the talk about them going OOP.

Or the new owners know better how to promote the CDS through retailers.

Here's the latest on this batch:

The Jazzmatazz site lists a release date of August 30 for everything-- OJCs, 20-bits, plus the Sonny Rollins live date.

The are only links to CD Universe for pre-orders for a few titles so far (NOT including Son of Gunn), but at least it's something positive.

The Fantasy site's new release page has finally been updated (after about 6 mos.), but only the Rollins date is listed.

This batch of "April" releases are (mostly) up on the Fantasy Web site (finally!):

OJCs

Only 6 of the 10 20-bits in the original January announcement are listed:

20-bits

So it doesn't look like these four made it (at least not yet):

Miles Davis, Dig

Coleman Hawkins, Soul

John Coltrane, Standard Coltrane

Yusef Lateef, Eastern Sounds

"Street date" is Aug. 30 for both.
