JSngry Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Cilantro would make feces taste good. But there's more to it that that! Do we all love cilantro, or are some of us, uh.... Never mind. CELEBRATE CILANTRO!!!!! Quote
sal Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 There's nothing like some tounge tacos from the south side with onion, cilantro, and some lime! Quote
Big Wheel Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I didn't realize until recently that cilantro and coriander were the same thing. Used in Asian foods as much as in Mexican. Anyone ever tried culantro? Supposed to be similar to cilantro, but stronger. Quote
Big Wheel Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Awesome spice info page here: http://www-ang.kfunigraz.ac.at/~katzer/engl/ Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Some people, like my Dad, are allergic to cilantro and it presents itself as tasting like "soap". Remind me never to eat that aged guac in JSngry's fridge. Quote
JSngry Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 You can always bathe with it! Quote
Eric Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 put me in the tastes like soap crowd ... blech Quote
jazzbo Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Give me Cilantro or give me. . . well I like a WHOLE LOT o' SPICES! Quote
jazzbo Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Try fresh cilantro on a fresh spinach salad! Quote
vibes Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Cilantro is wonderful with fried noodles or various forms of Indian food. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Can't get enough! It's good on everything! Quote
Brandon Burke Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I like to marinate fish filets in fresh lime juice, olive oil, chopped jalapeno, paprika, cracked pepper, and cilantro. Quote
BFrank Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 I've found that cilantro can indeed taste like soap........sometimes. I don't know if it's how they grow it, or what, but sometimes it has a taste that's nearly inedible. Most of the time, though, it's GREAT!!! Quote
JSngry Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 LTB grows her/our own, so we have it at our ready disposal. And she uses it liberally. Yet another reason why I love that woman. Quote
scottb Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 LTB grows her/our own, so we have it at our ready disposal. And she uses it liberally. We still talkin' about Cilantro? Quote
BeBop Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 To each his/her own. Me? Can't STAND the stuff. Soap is a pretty good description, says my taste bud. Quote
BeBop Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 Never noticed this smilie before. And now, it seems absolutely made for the topic: Quote
JSngry Posted January 8, 2005 Author Report Posted January 8, 2005 LTB grows her/our own, so we have it at our ready disposal. And she uses it liberally. We still talkin' about Cilantro? Yes, although she grows other herbs as well. But not THAT one - we're both too old for that. Quote
Brownian Motion Posted January 8, 2005 Report Posted January 8, 2005 A bunch of cilantro, chopped fine and added at the last minute, is the secret of truly distinguished chili con carne. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Sorry, but I think cilantro is about the most disgusting herb around. Nothing ruins a great salsa like cilantro... Quote
Joe G Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Vile weed! Just kidding; I think it's good stuff. I've got a mango salsa recipe with cilantro that's pretty tasty. Quote
Big Wheel Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 An Asian cookbook I just got as a gift talks about how there are a lot of Westerners who say they hate cilantro but actually really enjoy it in combination with certain other foods (i.e., they hate it in salsa but love it in a Thai salad). So the preference for cilantro seems to be somewhat context-dependent. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 Well, I think one big thing about cilantro is that if it's 'part of the mix', I'm okay with it, but if it stands out as an identifiable flavor, I ain't eatin' it. A little goes a long way. The salsa El Burro in San Jose with cilantro is great; the salsa at Baja Fresh with cilantro blows chunks. So I guess my real complaint is overuse of it. Mmmmmmm....El Burro....drool.... Quote
