Adam Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 In searching for a book on movie serials by Gene Fernett (Next Time Drive Off the CLiff) I found reference to two other books by him: THOUSAND GOLDEN HORNS: THE EXCITING AGE OF AMERICA'S GREATEST DANCE BANDS (Midland, Mich: Pendell Co, 1966) SWING OUT: GREAT NEGRO DANCE BANDS (Orig Pendell Co. 1970; reprint by Da Capo Press with Intro by Dan Morgenstern, 1993) Do any of you own either or have opinions? Are they of their time? Still useful guides? Just collections of photos? Quote
Adam Posted January 12, 2005 Author Report Posted January 12, 2005 I guess they are pretty forgotten. Anyone? I'll check out the reprinted book and read it to let you know as well. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 I've never seen these books. If Morganstern has an intro in one, I bet it is a pretty solid book as far as facts and fancy. . . . Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Actually no - I have this book and I can't locate it right now, but DM specifically notes that it is NOT a scholarly book and that it does have some problems. I wish I could find it - I'll look again. I want to say that it's a yellow 8.5x11 softbound book. Mike Quote
AllenLowe Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 not a great book, but intersting pics and the commentary is also worthwhile, as a contemporary witness - Quote
