Jazzmoose Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I'm sorry, but the idea of a team named after ducks hoisting the Stanley Cup is totally repugnant to me....GO DEVILS!!!!!!!!!! Quote
pryan Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I can't say I really like either team. But I am cheering for the Ducks because a local guy (Mike Leclerc) plays for them. I'd also like to see Adam Oates and Steve Thomas win their first cup. As one friend mentioned to me before the final two teams were decided, wouldn't it be ironic if the Devils a team Wayne Gretzky once, back in the 80s, called a "Mickey Mouse" club, took on the Mighty Ducks, who are of course owned by the Disney Corp. J Larsen Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Even though I'm now in Manhattan, as a native San Franciscan I still have a very strong anti-So Cal sports bias. Besides, the idea of ANOTHER Disney-owned team winning a championship is nauseating. GO DEVILS!!! Quote
Templejazz Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Well, Devils hammered the Ducks towards the end last night. Ducks started great but ended up looking very beaten in the last ten minutes of the 3rd period. I still hate the Devils for handing the Flyers' ass to them in 2001 so I'm rootin' fer the Ducks. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted June 7, 2003 Author Report Posted June 7, 2003 Ah, I'm feeling better with a 3-2 Devils edge. I won't say it's time to stick a fork in the Ducks (sorry!), but I'm hoping!! Quote
J Larsen Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 Nope. Last time that was said about an Anaheim team, my Giants blew their best shot at a WS in my lifetime. Quote

It's even more repugnant than you think. The team name was not simply taken from Ducks. The team was named after that "classic" Disney film The Mighty Ducks with the Oliver of the 80's Emilio Estevez in the lead. Edited June 9, 2003 by Mnytime Quote
pryan Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Well, it all comes down to a one game, winner-takes-all game seven. It doesn't get much more exciting than this in sports, ANY sport. Maybe the ABC will get more than five viewers tommorow. Quote

Probably depends on whether there is sunshine on the eastcoast, if there is, 5 may be about it! Those guys have been underwater all spring according to my buddies out there, so if it is 80 degrees, and not raining, nobody is going to be anywhere near a t.v. to watch hockey! And of course, we all know how weather sensitive CA fans are. Don't call them fair-weather for nothing. B) Quote
