mgraham333 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks Scott! I put my order in. Quote
BeBop Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Got 'em. Every darned one of 'em. And paid too much (in retrospect) for 'em too. Quote
Brad Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I have every one of these but this may as fine a reissue list as I've seen. I may upgrade on many of these however and ebay what I have. Quote
Morganized Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Got the Spainish version of True Blue and all the others except for Heavy Soul which I am sure I will pick up. This is the best set yet. Hell I may upgrade them all. This is prime Blue Note country. Quote
Ron S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Are these listed in one place anywhere on the CD Universe site? I'm not that familiar with the site and couldn't easily locate such a page (I usually just wait until they show up on AllDirect.com and get 'em for $7.99). Quote
Ed S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I found them listed under each individual artist name as "rvg/title" (RVG/Heavy Soul) Quote
mgraham333 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Here you go: Art Blakey - A Night In Tunisia Tina Brooks - True Blue Johnny Coles - Little Johnny C Pete LaRoca - Basra Hank Mobley - Hi Voltage Ike Quebec - Heavy Soul Blue Note Perfect Takes Quote
Ed S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Got 'em all. Gonna save the $$$ for something else. The Hill Select perhaps. Quote
Ron S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks Ed and Matt. I thought maybe I was missing some way to search for all RVG's, or upcoming releases, etc. Quote
mgraham333 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Thanks Ed and Matt. I thought maybe I was missing some way to search for all RVG's, or upcoming releases, etc. No problem. Once people start ordering them in groups, they should start showing up under the heading, "CUSTOMERS WHO BOUGHT THIS ALSO BOUGHT:" Quote
Ron S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 (edited) Thanks Ed and Matt. I thought maybe I was missing some way to search for all RVG's, or upcoming releases, etc. No problem. Once people start ordering them in groups, they should start showing up under the heading, "CUSTOMERS WHO BOUGHT THIS ALSO BOUGHT:" Just like Amazon. AllDirect.com generally is generally the cheapest, in my experience, but they don't have such conveniences--you have to know exactly what you want and just plow through each artist listing. Ron S Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Here they are on one page. AHA! So THAT'S the secret--search RVG under TITLE. Thanks for the spoon-feed. Quote
Guy Berger Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I'm extremely tempted to get Basra off the bat, but I think the usual best strategy is to see which RVGs show up on the BMG website over the next few months. Guy Quote
scottb Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 I think the usual best strategy is to see which RVGs show up on the BMG website over the next few months. I've tried this and invariably they carry the ones I bought and not the ones I need. (It's a conspiracy, you see ) Quote
Brad Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 What is this Blue Note Perfect Takes? I note it's not issued by Blue Note by Angel. Quote
mgraham333 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 What is this Blue Note Perfect Takes? I note it's not issued by Blue Note by Angel. I think we're all assuming that it is: Various Artists - Blue Note Perfect Takes - CD+DVD (Blue Note RVG Edition) Mar 2005 — Recording engineer Rudy van Gelder's favorite tunes from the RVG series; plus a bonus DVD featuring an interview with Rudy mentioned over at Jazzmatazz Quote
Claude Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 (edited) Got the Spainish version of True Blue and all the others except for Heavy Soul which I am sure I will pick up. This is the best set yet. Hell I may upgrade them all. This is prime Blue Note country. You should keep the spanish "True Blue", which is a TOCJ remastering and sounds perfect. I've got that one, the JRVG of "Basra" and the MFSL CD of "Night in Tunesia", so I will pass on this batch. Edited January 5, 2005 by Claude Quote
sjarrell Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 You should keep the spanish "True Blue", which is a TOCJ remastering and sounds perfect. No alternate takes, though... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 You should keep the spanish "True Blue", which is a TOCJ remastering and sounds perfect. It did not sound as "perfect" as the original vinyl and does not contain the two alternate takes. I suggest buying the new one, compare, then decide. You have something of value to sell either way. Available at Starbuck's, if you can find one. I may get Basra, as I passed on it too many times when the vinyl was affordable. Quote
mjzee Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 I'd be very curious about the Blakey. Every copy I've heard has sounded distorted to me, except for the MFSL. Wonder what the sound quality on this one will be like. Quote
