Jim Alfredson Posted December 29, 2004 Author Report Posted December 29, 2004 If a certain rare Charlie Earland recording is on its way, Jim, do I get a lifetime exemption? Sh! Don't tell Chuck... I have to see him tomorrow. Quote
Big Al Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 And here they are: 10. Charles Earland - Black Talk 9. Jimmy McGriff - I Got A Woman 8. Shirley Scott - Queen of the Organ 7. Don Patterson - The Exciting New Organ of Don Patterson 6. Jack McDuff - LIVE! 5. Groove Holmes - Living Soul 4. Larry Young - Unity 3. Big John Patton - Understanding 2. Jimmy Smith - Bashin' 1. Jimmy Smith - The Sermon If you don't have these, GET OUT! * This is a joke. I love you all. Really. Please don't leave. But c'mon, Big Al. Let's get with the program. Holy shit, I am in SO much trouble!!!!! Ahhhh, so much greeeeaze, so little time!!! B-) Quote
Jim R Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 All this organ shit is getting old. I say we take over the board and initiate a new, crisp, fresh, HIP instrument theme!... As long as it's electric. We don't like no pussified acoustic instruments around here! Mount some pickups on that baby! HOly...!! Are YOU thinkin' what I'M thinkin'? Quote
ejp626 Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Well, I have about half of those, but I only post half as often as most board members (if that) so I should be ok. And I also have Teshissimo, which is my ace in the hole. Caught on private security tape, the members of Organissimo secretly rehearse the music of John Tesh. To be released as a bootleg DVD if I am kicked off the board ... Quote
Big Al Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 (edited) Alfredson, Big Al and Soul Stream need to "get right"! # 11 on the list (the band is the ultra-greeeeazy Righteous Buddha): Edited December 29, 2004 by Big Al Quote
Big Al Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 and his recent aquisition of his first Brother Jack McDuff record In all fairness, it's my first Prestige McDuff (I have a couple of his Blue Notes), but that's still no excuse for being so unhip. Quote
Quincy Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 What if one owns your album? Is there a free pass for not having all 10? er.... regarding your album. Is that on the way? Quote
Dave James Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 It's not that I don't like organ jazz, I do. I have at least a dozen Jimmy Smith's, three Freddy Roach BN's, Reuben Wilson, the Big John Patton Select AND a Jimmy McGriff LP that he autographed for me years ago. Still, I feel the B-3 is underrepresented in my collection. What I like is guys who play the instrument, as the expression goes, with all the stops pulled out. I like that huge, fat sound - like the Gerald Wilson Mosaic cuts that feature Groove Holmes as part of the GW big band. So, my question is where can a guy, and everyday guy like me, get a little action...some genuinely house rockin', balls to the wall B-3? Recommendations please. Up over and out. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Another vote for the Eddy Louiss date. Rene Thomas and Kenny Clarke round out the trio. Quote
Soul Stream Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Alfredson, Big Al and Soul Stream need to "get right"! No mention of the greatest organ record of all time - "Face to Face". I once wrote "this record is the reason God allowed Mr Hammond to desecrate the organ". You're damn right Chuck. Baby Face Willette's "Face To Face" is one of the Top Ten for SURE. Knew I had forgotten somebody very important. O.K>Shirley Scott "Queen of the Organ" just got bumped to "honorable mention." Forgetting, Baby Face. Damn me to hell. Quote
EKE BBB Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Goodbye, my friends! This is my last post, as I only have two of those albums, and I´ll be banned in a few hours. It´s been great! Quote
Brad Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I've got 5 of the 10 plus Don's Genius of the B-3 so that should count for something plus I only post 1/5 of Sangrey so I should be OK. Quote
jlhoots Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 I've only got 3 of the 10, but I do have Face To Face. Quote
catesta Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Does this count? Was this really advertised on TV, as it states in the upper right corner? I'd love to see those commercials!!! If you were lucky and ordered in the first 10 minutes they would throw this little gem in as well. Quote
Bright Moments Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 add this one to the list! B-) Quote

It is worth the price of admission for Stanley's outro on "Just in Time" alone. If we have to take off one, take off Bashin'. Quote
