Guest akanalog Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 i was in other music yesterday and they had a few trevor watts CDs. mostly with the group amalgam, which i guess he led. many of the CDs looked interesting and had interesting players. but i am curious what the music sounded like. is it free-ish jazz or is it somewhat rock informed jazz or what? i have not been able to find much useful information online. thank you very much. A Lark Ascending Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 Have a look here: http://www.shef.ac.uk/misc/rec/ps/efi/mwatts.html Very freeish as I remember. From the same stable as the SME. Quote
SEK Posted December 30, 2004 Report Posted December 30, 2004 Amalgam's "Innovation" grooves in a real cool way, often with a strong pulse, congas, and in-and-out piano and sax wailing. One of my long-time favorites. Is it on CD now? "Prayer for Peace" is deeply beautiful and moving. Quote
Guest akanalog Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 innovation is pretty cool. picked it up today. it does have an interesting groove and keith tippett does not take the music into any too-abstract for me territory. prayer for peace looks good but i don't usually like sax trios. i might check out another time next. or there was another one that looked interesting i can't remember right now. how are these? also some some john stevens stuff. perhaps his work is worth a listen. his compositions on innovation are nice. SEK Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 akanalog, did you get "Innovation" on LP or CD? I got it when it was available only on vinyl and transferred it to CDR when I got too lazy and klutzy (more the latter than the former, actually). Quote
Guest akanalog Posted December 31, 2004 Report Posted December 31, 2004 it is on CD. downtown music gallery had a bunch of amalgam CDs actually... Quote
