Wasn't he the guy who was always reading tomes?

Yep. That's it. Tomes. No synthesizers, no electric bass.

I wonder what happened to him. He used to be a butt of many jokes and ridicule on the BNBB, until iirc someone finally got to him.

Damn, dude kinda sounds like me. Not that I necessarily "love" Wynton. But I don't care for the B3, and definitely do not like synthesizers and electric bass in Jazz. Though I do have an album Ras Moshe did that has a cat playing synthesizer on it that I thoroughly enjoy.

and did what? Off him? Stuck a Leslie up his ass until he came around? What kind of getting to are we talking here?

The guy's last name was Heany, that much I remember. First name Christopher, perhaps?

For all the taunts he took, soooo many of them deserved, imo, I alwys appreciated his Caught In The Act-type reviews of what he had heard the night before, where it was, who was there,w aht they palyed, etc. Steve Reynolds still provides that kind of input here, and I appreciate it every bit as much.

Ah, I see CJ recalls the full detail!

Chris Heaney.  That guy was something else.  He missed so much great music because he hated things like Rhodes or synths.

I can speak on his behalf and say there is so much incredible music out there without either of those instruments, that he hasn't missed all that much. I love those instruments in other genres, just not Jazz. I love my Jazz 100% acoustic.

Off him? What are you, Ray Liotta?

I think he just got enough of the badgering from people who are verifiably so much hipper.

Personally, I prefer the acoustic stuff.
