if you have not heard this Japanese firecracker yet, you should give a listen. two albums came in for Christmas (thank-you, Santa). Brain and Another Mind, both on Telarc. this gal is a piano virtuoso with amazing improvisational talent.

I listened to a couple of tracks from the first album in a store listening station awhile back. She's certainly a very strong technician, but the album felt waaaayyy overproduced. For now I prefer Eldar Djangorov if I want to listen to a pianist with crazy chops.

I saw her from about 10 feet out at the Ottawa Jazz festival. She definitely 'got the goods' as a pianist and performer. I also thought her album sounded a little clinical compared to what I saw and heard live, but check her out if you get a chance.
