I have the 2-cd set above but it is on Stardust label. It is a straight re-release of 2 lps on Jazz Archives Label (JA-12 and JA-13). There are 22 tracks on this release. According to DESOR, the following remain: 4/29/38 1 title, 5/5/38 1 title, 5/8/38 titles, 5/22/38 7 titles. Most of these are on the Jazz Panorama LP JP-14. I don't know if they are available on cd. There are also 6 titles listed as unreleased.

I too have long anticipated the Storyville release. I would order a copy the minute it bacame available.

It is now on the Storyville web site (www.storyvillerecords.com/Default.aspx) No track listing so far but it includes a 1933 newsreel item on Lenox Avenue and has a glimpse of Duke.

Is there anyway to order it besides phoning them? Also it doesn't give a price. Or did I miss it?

Slightly off topic, but can I get some recommendations for '30's Ellington? I have the other decades pretty well covered, but have little '30's material. Where should I begin? It's overwhelming!

Well there's a Mosaic Box set coming out in (we hope) November.... And if that's too pricey, when it comes out there should be a lot of the (I think) now OOP BMG 4 disc set hitting the used market.

The '30s recordings are mostly owned by Columbia/Sony. A few years ago they issued a 4 disc "Best of" set for cheap (much discussed on this board), but that seems to command huge prices now. The Mosaic set will be wonderful. Prepare to be whelmed.

So it looks like there's a fair amount of material here that's not on the Bear Family box. Another one for the birthday/Christmas wish-list...

EDIT: is this still a 2-CD set with all of the music listed earlier in the thread? The Storyville listing alludes to a second CD with the newsreel clip but gives a music track listing for only one CD.

Well I caved and ordered it from the UK. Got it last week. It's pretty great. Thank goodness it arrived before I heard that the Mosaic

box was delayed again or I'd be really depressed.

Is there anyway to order it besides phoning them? Also it doesn't give a price. Or did I miss it?

Joe, thanks for the info. I'm going to hold off a little longer. Amazon US finally has that Lester Young two cd set from Storyville for sale cheaper than what it cost me to order from Amazon France some months back, so I'm going to hold off as long as I can. . . .
