Dmitry Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Sassy Swings the Tivoli The tune selection looks particularly tasty, and I don't think I have any live recordings of Sassy in small group setting in my collection. Eddie Condon in Japan In all honesty I'm not familiar with Condon, but the personel looks paticularly enticing - Buck Clayton, Vic Dickenson, Pee Wee Russell, Bud Freeman. I'm thinking I should pull the trigger... Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 The Condon is excellent, everyone one in fine form, Pee Wee especially. Don't know that Sarah, but I wouldn't hesitate. Quote
JSngry Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Seems like I remember Richard Davis being on the Tivoli side. But I'm not sure. Quote
JSngry Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Oops, that was another one. Sorry. AMG calls Tivoli "a gem", though. FWIW. Quote
etherbored Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 just a note that SASSY SWINGS THE TIVOLI is an apex of sarah's without question. run, don't walk.... the only minor flaw to me is its mastering. i've been hoping for a makeover for years. when haven't we heard that? -e- Quote
BFrank Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 I have a few cuts from that Tivoli set on a collection and they're definitely top shelf. I've been meaning to try and grab that one for years. Quote
brownie Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 The Sassy at Tivoli is one of her best albums. You won't be disappointed. The trio backing her (Kirk Stuart on piano, Charles Williams on bass and George Hugues on drums) is very much together. Very enjoyable date. Quote
Dmitry Posted December 5, 2004 Author Report Posted December 5, 2004 A consensus! I will pick up both. Quote
BFrank Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 The Tivoli album is OOP at this point, I'm guessing? Quote
etherbored Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 The Tivoli album is OOP at this point, I'm guessing? not quite OOP, but not easy to find either... all the mroe reason for scooping it up! -e- Quote
Brad Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 Where in the city did you see it? Jazz Record Center? I'm going to be in the city on Wednesday so if you've got a good place, let me know. Quote
Phil Meloy Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 The Tivoli album is OOP at this point, I'm guessing? Yes it is a bit hard to find. I managed to pick it up about six months ago through one of Amazon UK's marketplace sellers. Quote
Dmitry Posted January 14, 2005 Author Report Posted January 14, 2005 I did pick up both of these titles and both were worth the money paid. The 2 cd set especially is indispensable for Sarah Vaughan fans. I love it!!! Quote
