Roy Hargove RH Factor "Strength"

I learned that a new Roy Hargrove RH Factor CD has been released, called : "Strength" on Verve

Did one of you heard this one. It hasn't been emerged on this side of the country. It seems to be a Verve-France release? It's an EP - what does that mean? What's the playing time?

It's around 40+ minutes long, with 6 tracks, iirc. The first two are great funk, the rest are more "modern" r'n'b-inspired and not as good, but pleasant enough.

I tried to obtain a copy in the record shops around my place, but no-one had heard off it. Strange, because it was reviewed in "Jazz" our wide-spread jaz magazine.

I picked up a copy in town today for $7.99 (CDN). Liking it thus far.

I found it to be an uncompelling but nevertheless pleasant listen.

It's still a bit "derivative", but at least it's derivative of something more modern. And if it turns out to be the rumblings of a populist something-or-other that's newer, bigger, and bolder than more rehashed hard bop, then I'm all in favor of it.

I don't know. EP means Extended Play?

An EP is "longer" than a single but "shorter" than a full-lenght album (or LP).

Is this better than the first RH Factor CD? I like Hargrove in general and I like funk, but I found the first CD to be a consistent bore.

I'd say it is substantially better, especially the first two tunes (as another poster pointed out). The remaining four songs are not bad either. I've only listened to this one a couple of times, but it's one I'm going to return to often in the near future I think.
