David Ayers Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I like people who 'don't get it' - sometimes they are on to something. A lot of people have expressed reservations about this work. I have never been very fond of it myself. Quote
robviti Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I say we take him out back and beat the crap out of him. i'm sorry, but i can't condone this kind of meaningless violence. what we should do is take him out front and beat the crap out of him as lesson to others who might think likewise. now that would be meaningful! John L Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 (edited) "It is a suite written in four movements for a quartet consisting of saxophone, piano, drums, and fingered string bass." The fingered string bass must be where Coltrane went wrong. Bring back the bows! The whole thing should have been scored for string quartet from the outset. I wonder if this guy is aware that the musicians are not supposed to just play the score as it is written, but are actually expected to improvise some of the suite spontaneously? JSngry Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I say that the string bass was probably traumatized from being fingered. Quote
