Peter Friedman
Probably my favorite playing by Ron Carter is in a sideman role on this album. Bobby Timmons - The Soul Man - Prestige This is a quartet session with Wayne Shorter on tenor, and Jimmy Cobb on drums. Shorter's tune "Tom Thumb" , and these two tunes by Ron Carter - Ein Bahn Strasse" and "Little Waltz" are all special favorites of mine. Tom Storer
still very active but in semi-retirement. Hmmm. What is the consensus on his 2006 recording Dear Miles? I love it. Has he stopped playing free? Oops, wrong word. You meant "started," right? AllMusic.com rates his recordings all over the map but with very few 4 and 5 star ratings. Is it because of his compositions that he's not higher rated? I can't speak for AllMusic.com, but ever since he left Miles there have been naysayers. Some don't like his bass sound, some say he plays flat, some say he rushes the tempo; in addition his albums have not always been memorable. I think he's on a roll nowadays. All his most recent albums I've found excellent.
Gheorghe
I heard him live several times. Once, the famous quartet with Kenny Barron, Ben Riley and Buster Williams. I must admit I liked more, what Buster Williams did on his few solos, that the piccolo solos of the leader himself. But I like most of his work very much. One album as a leader I always liked much is "Parade" from about 1979.
