Bol Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 I've been trying to listen to sound clips from the following 2 new recordings without success. Enrico Pieranunzi, "Doorways" (Sunnyside) Enrico Pieranunzi, "Fellini Jazz" (Sunnyside) Does anyone know where I can find them? Any reactions from those who have listened to these CDs would also be appreciated. Quote
porcy62 Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 (edited) I bought the cds in Italy, so I don't know where you can find sound clips, but if you like his piano playing you should also listen at "Play Morricone" and "Play Morricone 2" two dates with Joey Baron and Marc Johnson. I listened at them this summer, a great concert expecially for JB. The label is CAMJAZZ. website: http://www.camjazz.com Edited November 17, 2004 by porcy62 Quote

Bol Posted November 17, 2004 Author Report Posted November 17, 2004 Thanks so much. Those sound clips are very helpful. Quote
brownie Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Bol, Fellini Jazz is one of the happy surprise release of 2004. A very endearing series of interpretations of the classic music of Nino Rota. Warmly redcommended! Quote
Bol Posted November 17, 2004 Author Report Posted November 17, 2004 Brownie, Thanks for your reaction. I think I will try "Doorways" first. If I like it, I will try "Fellini Jazz". The chief attraction for me here is Paul Motian. I've really been enjoying some recent recordings in which he plays: recordings by Lovano, Tony Malaby, and Bill McHenry. I am not such a big fan of Kenny Wheeler and Chris Potter. I find Wheeler too sentimental at times, and I find Potter a tad boring. But your recommendation certainly gives me a push, and I will try the recording if I like "Doorways". Thanks again. By the way, if you like Rota's music, you may want to try his classical chamber music recorded by Gidon Kremer and some of his associates (including the members of the always interesting and exciting Hagen Quartet). I think the CD was released by BIS, which I think is a Scandinavian label. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Pieranunzi's trio and solo recordings are marvellous. I'd strongly recommend his disc of Wayne Shorter tunes - a huge favourite of mine over recent years. Quote
