trane_fanatic
So the other night, I walked into Streetlight Records here in San Francisco for a 25% off all used sale they were having. Mind you, I am surviving on a extremely limited amount of funds right now and tried to resist spending more than $20, maybe buy 2 CDs at the most. So what happened when I walked outta there at the end? I blew nearly $100 on the following... Sonny Rollins - Worktime (20-bit K2 remaster) Tony Williams - Lifetime (RVG) Miles Davis Quintet - Cookin', Steamin' (20-bit K2 remasters) Hank Mobley - The Flip (BN Conn. Edition) Miles Davis - Vol. 1 (RVG), At Fillmore:Live At Fillmore East (this Columbia set is really lame) Eric Dolphy - Outward Bound, Far Cry, At the Five Spot Vol.1 (20-bit K2 remasters) Art Blakey - Indestructible (RVG) Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny (20-bit K2 remaster) Bud Powell - Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 2 (RVG) I need to get cured of IJABS (Impulsive Jazz Album Buying Syndrome), but I don't want to. jlhoots
That's quite a haul for around $100. I say - "nice going".
trane_fanatic
Yea, the K2s were all missing the wraparound covers (I'm nitpicking), but I got a few CDs in other genres that I've wanted too. BFrank
I try not to go into used stores (especially Amoeba!) unless I have stuff to trade or a credit slip already in my wallet. I will still wander into Streetlight (on 24th St) when I'm on errands in the neighborhood, but have been pretty good at keeping my impulsive purchasing in check. (not always easy, for sure) I did pick up Jack Bruce's re-mastered "Harmony Row" at the 25% sale, though.
wesbed
I've been purchasing too many K2s via CD Universe lately. I can no longer find most K2s in my local area (although several OJCs are still available).
GregK
I bought 2 CDs at Borders on Thursday-Chick Corea Return to Forever, and Dave Holland rarum. I just may pick up two more rarums tomorrow (Jack DeJohnette and Art Ensemble of Chicago)- at least they are $14.99, cheaper than most CDs at Borders. I will have to stop this soon though-baby #2 is on the way, Christmas, birthdays coming up...... is there a cure?

spinlps
I will have to stop this soon though-baby #2 is on the way, Christmas, birthdays coming up...... is there a cure? There is no cure... #2 is due March 5 and I'm trying to slow things down. I'm trying a zero sum solution of one has to go before something else takes it's place on the shelves. So far I'm at +20 or so ... that's after boxing up 2 Uhaul boxes of CD's for trade and another two boxes of LP's to sell! Unfortuneately, something happened this week that will DEFINITELY slow me down. Baby #1 (2 years old) suffered a spiral fracture of his left tibia and is now in a full leg cast. Our current car seats have a protective bar that lowers across the waist which the cast now obstructs. My wife asked me to check out some new car seats and I realized I could have bought 2 car seats for what I've spent on music the since September

Noj
Imagine suffering from this syndrome and going to a sale where new cds are $3. This was my experience Saturday morning at a Camarillo warehouse owned by EMI. The selection could have been better, but who's complaining? Keeping these: Louis Jordan - One Man Named Louis The Amazing Bud Powell Volume 2 (non-RVG) Pat Martino - Live At Yoshi's Dr. John - Duke Elegant Jason Moran - Facing Left Charlie Hunter - Charlie Hunter Cachao - Cuba Linda Gladys Knight & The Pips - Claudine Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Bobby Womack - Facts Of Life D'Angelo - Voodoo Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions 2 Slum Village discs Eazy-E - EZ Duz It These will be sold: Blues King Pins Series (Capitol) - Elmore James (doubled up, have another comp w/same tracks) Blues King Pins Series (Capitol) - Lightnin' Hopkins (same as above) Blues King Pins Series (Capitol) - Ike Turner (yawn) Still deciding: Les Nubians - One Step Forward

Stefan Wood
I have been a compulsive buyer for some time now. However, I have to bite the bullet and stop cold turkey, especially where charges are concerned. I have screwed myself over one too many times by charging when I don't have the money, and now I have to deal with the debt. So no more unless I put my pennies aside for the next cool reissue. Parkertown
I know what you mean: I went into Best Buy the other day with the plan to buy ONLY the new Elton John Captain Fantastic SACD. Well, I left the store with all 5 Elton SACDs (no Peachtree Road) and all 3 Eric Clapton SACDs. $14.99 each but this discount card I have took $2 off each one so I think it was about $110. Plus I went back the next day for some purchases for the wife: Shania Twain's Greatest Hits and Britney Spears Greatest Hits:My Prerogative on DVD! (of course, I had to watch it too, darn...) spinlps
My biggest problem is the classic "enabler" syndrome... Hmmm... I have a taste for a smoothie, maybe I'll head to Smoothie King. Not the one closest to the office, nor the one closest to home, definitely the one NEXT to Vintage Vinyl. I can't very well stand in SK and drink my smoothie, maybe I'll walk around outside... or in VV! Same goes for trips to Euclid... I can't go to the ice cream shop a few blocks from the house, I HAVE to make the 30 minute drive to Serendipity which just happens to be a block from Euclid Records. Damn those frozen treats! Noj
That's a pretty cool sale. How did you even find out about it?? My good friend works for them and was allowed to bring one guest. Fun experience, they set up rows of banquet tables topped with cartons of random cds--I was betting they were discs that sat on a shelf for too long, since some were labelled with Tower Records price tags. montg
My biggest problem is the classic "enabler" syndrome... For me, it's 'OK, I'll order a couple of Dr. Seuss books on amazon for the kiddos--oh, look, I'm about 9 bucks short of the 25.00 free shipping deal..guess I better add an RVG to the order'. Yep, to quote an ex-President, "I feel your pain". That's exactly where I'm at, and so far I've managed to stick to my 'no CDs for the rest of the year' pledge to work those cards down. Of course, I know there's an explosion in my future; I can only hope to delay it until I'm caught up...
LAL
Being outside the U.S., no online retailer (except djangos) offers free shipping. Still, for every incremental CD bought the shipping cost per CD decreases, which compels me to keep adding disc after disc in the order to bring down the shipping cost. Then, there're the periodical discounts which seem to always coincide with my CD orders. Needless to say, I always end up buying double or more the quantity of discs I initially set out to buy. I need counselling and maybe rehab.
GregK
now that I've discovered www.yourmusic.com, I know I will have a CD coming at $5.99 (free shipping!) once a month for the next 6 months, and my first two are the Relaxin' SACD followed by the Lush Life SACD-hopefully that will slow down the impulse buys! GregK
I just looked at the site. It looks good. What's the catch? I don't think there is a catch. Unless you forget to have something in your queue, in which case your credit card automatically gets charged and you get nothing. Automatic charges to your credit card might be a problem for some people, perhaps. You can cancel anytime, shipping is free, you can buy any title in the BMG catalog for $5.99 a disc (so multi disc sets are # of discs X $5.99)-I don't get how they can do this and still make money, but I'm gonna try it out for 6 months (or more, if they add more titles I might want). wolff
Vintage Vinyl. Euclid Records. No wonder!! Used do a lot of mail order with those guys before Ebay. Since I do not like the few remaining used vinyl stores in my area I do not have a problem with impulsive buying. Last couple years I've done 2 or 3 big buys from Red Trumpet after selling off a couple arm loads of LP's to help defray the cost of mostly $25-30 LP's. Works for me.
