JSngry Posted November 11, 2004 Author Report Posted November 11, 2004 Hmm, when did Blue Note record the Birth of the Cool? During the brief interval when Alfred Lion changed his name to Pete Rugulo, apparently... Quote
JSngry Posted November 11, 2004 Author Report Posted November 11, 2004 I love the logic of this customer's quote: Anyone who does not own "Blue Train", "Kind of Blue" and "Somethin' Else", should not be allowed to buy jazz CDs anyway Who the hell wrote that, anyway - Joseph Heller? Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Hmm, when did Blue Note record the Birth of the Cool? This reminds me of a piece in Billboard in the early '70s where the newly appointed BN honcho George Butler talked about the label's heritage. He lauded the great BN artists of the past, including Bix Beiderbecke. Quote
Bill Fenohr Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Not to mention that had Butler had Bix on the label, he would have turned him over to be produced by the Mizell brothers. Quote

LarryCurleyMoe Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 (edited) http://www.bluenote.com/detail.asp?SelectionID=10369 Just more bluenote re-packaging I won't invest in...WTF? Unless I want to upgrade (or downgrade, as the case might be), there's not much in the recent (or upcoming) wave of reissues I will score... Really weird- first time in a long while I haven't bought blue note for months... IMO - BN also might as well drop the conn and just go RVG all the way...what now justifies the differince in price? As with Johnny Coles - "Little Johhny C", "Ready for Freddie" & perhaps others - just because it's called a conn doesn't mean it really is limited edition. perhaps should be called "Con" series?
