maren Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Dan Gould said: BUT there were a lot of people who seemed interested at the idea. In fact, I offered to be organizer because someone, I think it was Maren, thought that this would be "too much work" for someone like Jim to have to deal with. Yeah, too much work ... when push came to shove, three people signed up. So, yeah, maybe I should lighten up. But the fact that a seemingly popular idea crashed and burned doesn't exactly put me in the Christmas spirit. I'm sorry, Dan! It was very generous of you to offer to organize. At the time the idea came up, I was thinking "I could swing $10 or $15" -- but that quickly proved to be overly optimistic, sorry to say... (and kind of a bummer to have to acknowledge even to myself, much less publicly! ) I didn't mean to be overly bossy -- I just thought that Jim A. had a pretty full plate, providing this board, dealing with the server change, new baby, home repair projects -- and I didn't want to presume to volunteer him for yet another project... Maybe "next year all our troubles will be out of sight"??? Thanks again for TRYING, and I'm sorry I dropped off the scene with no explanation... For Dan: For me: Quote

Nice idea, though. ....and mine was a nice, signed b&w jazz print; matted and suitable for framing. I guess I'lll hang it in my office..... You wanna swap anyway? Quote

No, Maren, that was OK. You were right at the time, and that was even before Allison's curious health symptoms popped up! I was just hoping this would all come together and a lot of people would have some fun. But just as people put too much pressure on their family ties this time of year, I guess I hoped for too much. Maybe next year .... Quote

Alexander Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 I apologize as well. I was one of the people who liked the idea, but failed to come forward when the time came. For me, it was a sudden realization of just how deep in the hole we are and how small a Christmas we're really going to have (especially considering the fact that I'll be student teaching in the spring and will be earning exactly $0). Given the interest expressed earlier, I didn't think my lack of participation would be missed. Obviously that wasn't the case. So I deserve a lump of coal as well. Hopefully, by this time next year I'll be teaching and earning money and will be able to participate. Maybe we need to do the sign ups earlier...October maybe? Quote
