OK folks, here we go:

  • To signup, post here and then send me, via PM or regular email (dangould@hotmail.com) your screen name; real name if different from your screen name, regular email address and a shipping address.

Around the first week of December, I will make the Secret Santa assignments and let people know who they are shopping for.

Gift guidelines: Anything goes, from personally selected items to a gift certificate at a cyberstore. Best to include receipts if you go out on a limb with something personal. Price of the gift should be in the $15-20 range.

It occured to me that to preserve anonymity, folks ought to remember to put "Secret Santa" or no name at all if they are shipping the item, and if you have an email like mine and are sending an internet gift certificate, you should consider getting a yahoo or hotmail account using "Secret Santa" in your email. Just a thought!

I leave it up to the individual to decide whether to open gifts on receipt, Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day ;) . But do remember to look for the "Thanks, Secret Santa!" thread to let us know what you got and express your appreciation.

As I understand it, it is no longer possible to ship items from the US to overseas destinations without giving a real name and address.

At least that has been my experience.

Then maybe its best to stick with an internet gift certificate under those circumstances?

The Secret Santa Gift Exchange is officially CANCELLED.

Nevertheless, coal will be delivered to the stockings of everyone who was free with their opinions on how it should be organized and what the gifts should be but couldn't be bothered to actually participate.

Sorry Dan.

A lump of coal for me then.

Your idea had merit and I liked it initially. Unfortunately, the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of cd swapping. Then you have to add that I am going through a job change. I don't have the time to get involved in this sort of thing right now.

BTW, don't be opposed to other suggestions. When we take an "our way or the highway" approach, we will find that many do decide to "take the highway."

Cheer up!

I don't think it had to be limited to cd swapping. I, for instance, was considering shipping off a bottle of Crown Royal Premium Whisky, a product made in Gimli, Mb. Oh well, I guess it'll have to be put off for now. Nice idea, though.

Paul,

Look at the first post in this thread. There was no "my way or the highway" rules in place!! NONE whatsoever.

"Gift guidelines:  ANYTHING GOES ..."

There was no consensus-so there was no effort to control what people could or couldn't do. It could be CD swapping or it could be anything else. It could be personal choices or internet gift certificates. Some people wanted the rule to be "no jazz". NONE of these had strong support. NONE of them were adopted.

The only requirement was the very reasonable price guideline of $20 or so.

Now, I understand that people's economic circumstances change and that may preclude participation. And, I certainly understood Late's problem (I think that was him) that he's always traveling and can't know where he'll be. BUT there were a lot of people who seemed interested at the idea. In fact, I offered to be organizer because someone, I think it was Maren, thought that this would be "too much work" for someone like Jim to have to deal with. Yeah, too much work ... when push came to shove, three people signed up.

So, yeah, maybe I should lighten up. But the fact that a seemingly popular idea crashed and burned doesn't exactly put me in the Christmas spirit.
