spinlps Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 They make a firewire version if you don't want to open up your computer. I think it's called the Firewire Audiophile (a stretch, I know). I'm about to get one of those for my laptop. I saw that Stereophile had reviewed a PCMCIA / PC Card sound card in the last issue or two. I recall the review to be favorable. It might be more convenient than a firewire/usb box since you do away with wires, etc... Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 I've had excellent results with the Audiophile 2496. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Audi...e2496-main.html It has standard RCA IN / OUT jacks and produces excellent sound through my "quiet" audio PC. I can record LP's to hard disk, edit, mix, etc... then onto CD or iPod for travels. Highly recommended! The website for this card looks pretty good. A few unanswered quaestions remain. They mention "premium digital audio converters" but then don't identify them. What are they? Burr Brown? Analog Devices? They also mention "SCMS copy protection control". What does that mean for PC audio? I wouldn't want SCMS on my PC so I hope it's not included. Kevin Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 It means if you're coming in through the spdif digital input, you can choose to ignore the SCMS copy protection scheme that some playback devices use. The convertors are Burr/Brown, I believe. I think that's what I saw on there. I'll have to check again. Quote
