I saw virtuoso accordianist Richard Galliano with George Mraz and Al Foster at the Regattabar in Cambridge Friday night. Pablo Ziegler, who played piano for ten years with Astor Piazzolla's final quintet was a special guest and played duets with Galliano.

Excellent music from amazing musicians.

Last night: Kevin Mahogany & Red Holloway at the Dakota

Tonight:

Tom Petty and Pearl Jam at the Xcel.

How was the Mahogany & Holloway show??? Know nothing of Mahogany's music but love Holloway. Going to see them this Saturday night.

m~

It's hard to get my mind around it after the loud rock music last night, but I had a good time. I would have rather seen a Red Holloway show without a vocalist, but I enjoyed the opportunity to see him perform.

Sorry if I am not more help.

That's what I'm think, really just going to get some photographs of Red!

Thanks,

  • 2 weeks later...

Keny Burrell tonight at Catalina's with Herman Riley on tenor (don't really know the rest of the quintet off the top of my head, but probably Roberto Miranda and Tom Ranier will be on hand as well).

I've heard him 1-3 times a year for the past 20-25 years. And I'm still looking forward to tonight's show.

Pretty incredible circumstances tonight...

At 5PM, I have another composition session with

Karlheinz Stockhausen which will be followed

by going to a concert in a Köln church with two of his daughters

to see their brother, trumpeter Markus Stockhausen, play.

If someone had told me 10 years ago that I'd be doing this,

I wouldn't have believed them! :o

JASON MORAN TRIO, followed by WAYNE SHORTER QUARTET in few hours.

Yesterday, it was ROBERT GLASPER TRIO (bouaf), KRIS DEFOORT QUARTET with MARK TURNER & JIM BLACK (very interesting) and JOHN ZORN'S MASADA, the true one, I mean the accoustic one (volatil and wonderfull, best concert I've ever seen from the quartet)

Quite an impressive series of shows! I'd love to see all of those.

Caught Dr Lonnie Smith at the Jazz Standard Tuesday, with the fine drummer Allison Miller. Peter wasn't on guitar, another young feller was but I missed his name. I love the Doc and my goodness does he ever swing. A wonderfully soul-expanding set he played too, not that that's extrordinary. In fact I can feel the new contours where he made my heart a bigger place.

Saw an "all-star" group last night at The New Mexico Jazz Festival.

Frank Wess, Lew Tabackin, Randy Sandke, Kenny Davern, Howard Alden, Cedar Walton, Peter Washington, Kenny Washington.

Great playing by all. Everyone had their own "features" as well as tunes by the entire group.

More thought than usually goes into this type of session had obviously been applied.

Outstanding Rod! Please report about all the above.

I can't believe there were no responses to your posting.
