There's not a duo recording as far as i know - except for the 1 track Vortex fundraiser here - https://davehollandevanparkerinduo.bandcamp.com/releases but the two of them have recorded in quartet with Craig Taborn and Ches Smith, coming out on DH's own label in May, I believe The interplay was amazing, great to hear Holland in that sort of context and environment. And I got to meet him and chat a bit, which was really nice! Quote

king ubu Posted March 9, 2018 Report Posted March 9, 2018 Was not expecting any music last night, but Ken Vandermark was sitting there with his instruments, in the midst of Petra Cvelbar's fine photographs. He did a four piece solo set, I guess around half an hour long, starting with a clarinet piece for Lee Friedlander (circular breathing, falsetto stuff, got pretty shrill and weird at times - some of the audience left after that ...), then honking on tenor, then back to clarinet for another great piece (still consider clarinet he's best on clarinet!). For closers he bunrt it up on tenor with Ayler's "Love Cry". Mette Rasmussen was in the audience, and later jaimie branch dropped by, too. Now looking forward to the first actual festival night! kh1958 Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 (edited) At the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee, I saw: 1. Meshell Ndegeocello (Tennessee Theater) (duet of bass guitar/vocals and guitar). 2. David Hidalgo and Mark Ribot (Tennessee Theater) (duo of guitars/vocals). 3. Roscoe Mitchell Trio Five (Standard). 4. Rova Saxophone Quartet (Knoxville Museum of Art). 5. Milford Graves (solo) (Bijou Theater). 6. Ned Rothenberg (solo) (St. John's Cathedral). 7. Evan Parker (solo) (St. John's Cathedral). 8. TAL National (Mill and Mine) (Afro rock from Niger). 9. Jenny Scheinman, live soundtrack to documentary Kannapolis (Bijou Theater). 10. Cyro Baptista and Banquet of the Spirits (Bijou Theater). 11. Jason Moran and Milford Graves (Bijou Theater). 12. Roscoe Mitchell Trios (Bijou Theater) (now that was great). 13. Rova Electric Ascension (12 piece band with additions including Nels Cline, Jenny Scheinman, Cyro Baptista and Ches Smith) (Bijou Theater). I enjoyed all of the foregoing in varying degrees, the highlights for me being undoubtedly the Roscoe Mitchell Trios epic performance and the incredible TAL National. It was also great to get to see Milford Graves perform twice, and it was also a thrill to hear Coltrane's majestic Ascension theme performed live by a 12 piece band. I thought the Bijou Theater was a terrific venue. I also enjoyed the Tennessee Theater and St. John's Cathedral. I did not like the Standard or the Mill and Mine venues. Overall, a great experience which I would repeat in the future. Edited March 27, 2018 by kh1958 Quote

Glad to hear EP's got the Electro/Acoustic Ensemble back playing live - interesting selection of players in it too. It's been a while since he's done similar back here. The couple of times I've been lucky enough to see the ensemble have been magnificent Quote
