J.A.W. Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 According to JC Pete Jolly died on Saturday at the age of 72. Sad news. Quote
mikeweil Posted November 8, 2004 Report Posted November 8, 2004 Sad indeed. His swing could be so intense. RIP. Quote
Jim R Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Sorry to hear this. I've never managed to get around to truly focusing on his work. I have him as a sideman with various artists including Baker, Pepper, Burrell, Rosolino, Niehaus, Touff, and Rogers, but nothing as a leader, unfortunately. I must correct that. Any suggestions? Anything in print? Quote
JohnS Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) Sad news indeed. He plays some tasty accordian on one or two tracks I have. Swinging on that instrument takes some doing. Edited November 9, 2004 by JohnS Quote
catesta Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 RIP, Pete. Jim R, you can still find some of Jolly's leader stuff in print. I bought this one from cduniverse a couple of months ago. I enjoy it very much. Quote
wesbed Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 Born Peter Ceragioli, 5 June 1932, New Haven, Connecticut Now I understand why he used the last name of Jolly. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 9, 2004 Report Posted November 9, 2004 When I was over in the LA area several years ago he was doing regular gigs at a restaurant in the Long Beach area. Glad I caught him featured at length at the Balboa West Coast Fest, he put in lots of hours on the piano at that event. RIP. Quote
mikeos Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Here's a fuzzy picture of Pete from the 1985 Nice jazz festival. Quote
