Matthew Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 J Larsen, Here's a hint. His initials are WY. Dude, now you got me -- all this time I thuoght it was Woody Shaw. But WY? Quote
J Larsen Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Woody Shaw occured to me too, but it was a little early for him and he is discussed fairly often. WY??? I may not have heard of this guy. Quote
J Larsen Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 It would have been funny if you had said WM! Quote
Saint Vitus Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 WY is on some of Jackie Mac's Prestige sessions. Quote
shawn·m Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 WY, no kidding? If true, too cool! Hey Bertrand, did you ever talk to Javon Jackson and ask what he meant by “Horace Silver was the reason that Wayne wrote the way he wrote”? Mr. Goldsher’s explanation just didn’t do it for me (I don’t remember what it was, other than it didn’t satisfy). Quote
Big Al Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 J Larsen, Here's a hint. His initials are WY. Wynton Yarsalis? Quote
jmjk Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 J Larsen, Here's a hint. His initials are WY. Wynton Yarsalis? Would this be the same Wynton Yarsalis who released that great record For Lady ? Quote
bertrand Posted March 13, 2003 Author Report Posted March 13, 2003 Kartoffel, Haven't talked to Javon in a while. I saw him in D.C. just about a year ago, but I haven't had a chance to call him since. I seem to never have time to make calls anymore. All my friends (both of 'em) think I'm blowing them off. Quote
shawn·m Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 That’s a shame. I’m convinced Javon was quoted out of context. Being that the Silver/Shorter connection is not an obvious one, I’d like to hear more about it. Gee, now I’ve a boatload of questions, but they don’t have anything to do with Javon, Shorter or Silver. Too cool! Quote
mjzee Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Question re Iron City: When was it first released on LP? If it was when Larry Young was still alive, did he mention to anyone that he was the organist on the date? Quote
bertrand Posted February 28, 2008 Author Report Posted February 28, 2008 Excellent question. Does anyone know? Bill Heid knows a bit about this session. It was done in Pittsburgh (duh!) for some cheapskate producer. Funny thing, Bill thinks it's Patton, not Young, or at least he did two years ago. Sad to realize that now Webster is no longer with us. I never got to say goodbye. He was a really sweet cat. My life was enriched knowing him. I believe Grachan said he wanted Woody for the date, but Alfred pushed for Lee who was better known. Bertrand. Christiern Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Will anyone miss the thread in which Lois licks Crouch's ass in a futile attempt to attract new members? Sorry--wrong board, but we've all been there. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I really dug that collective effort on the ongoing sci-fi story starring Aric. I kept trying to move it toward dark violent avenues and then the next guy would bring it back to the light, though. Too bad, there were some real good writing and plot twists, I wish someone kept it. Dan, you probably forgot you even asked, but it was saved and brought over here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ic+Merriweather Quote
