Guest Bill Barton Posted October 11, 2007 Report Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) There are definitely some great recordings on this thread! I'd offer another plug for the Bob Moses Gramavision label large ensemble discs When Elephants Dream of Music, Visit with the Great Spirit and Time Stood Still. Maria Schneider hasn't been mentioned yet (unless I missed it...) All of her recordings are worthwhile, but the most recent, Sky Blue on Artist Share, available at her website is the one I'd recommend to start with: it strikes me as a culmination of her artistic growth to date with outstanding compositions/arrangements and some wonderful solo work as well (Ingrid Jensen in particular!) And: Satoko Fujii Orchestra NY - Undulation Satoko Fujii Orchestra Tokyo - Live!!! Satoko Fujii Orchestra Kobe - Kobe Yee!! Satoko Fujii Orchestra Nagoya - Maru Information, mail order purchase of CDs and a discography available here. Thanks for pulling my coattails earlier on the Bennie Wallace CD. Definitely have to find a copy of this one... Edited October 11, 2007 by Bill Barton Quote
hprill Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 (edited) I'm not much of a big band person, but I quite like the Robert Bachner Big Band's Moments of Noise, released in 2006 on ATS Records (CD-0616; order information: http://www.robertbachner.com/). They're incredible live, and manage well enough to capture much of the energy on CD. Edited October 30, 2007 by hprill Quote
