Hi everybody, I am new to this website and I already love it.Could you please help me to update my JRVG collection. What is the cheapest and ... most reliable place or website I can get them from? Thanks for your help. ;)

Welcome to my board, ANSL! :D

As Chuck says, the most recent JRVGs are sonically the same as the U.S. RVGs. How do you tell? Well, this has only been going on for about two years, but one sure sign is that if there are (non LP) extra tracks, you can be sure that both are the same. Knowledgeable board members like J.A.K. (Hans) would be able to post complete lists, I'm sure.

At the risk of over-over-laboring a point, I recommend the TOCJ ("Blue Note Works") CDs over the JRVGs. They are OOP now, though some stores still have a few in stock. They also float up on eBay.

Happy searching!

Thanks for your answers.I know what I need to do.Wait til they come up on this website or ebay.So far, I have bought mine to HMV japan but shipping costs a fortune.

Sorry to disagree but I do prefer the JRVG sound although the recent ones sound very similar to the US versions.

Well, if anybody has a few JRVG for sale, give me a shout! ;)

Why don't you try Hiroshi Tanno: hiroshi@earlyrecords.com. He may still be able to get them for you. His JRVG price is 2,500 yen (€18.50 / $23.30 / £12.75 at today's exchange rates), and his shipping rates are quite moderate compared to what HMV Japan, Tower Japan or Amazon Japan are charging. Hiroshi can supply all currently available Japanese jazz CDs and LPs, whether they're listed on his website or not. He takes PayPal, but no credit cards.

Good luck.

Edit: JRVGs always have TOCJ-9XXX CD numbers.

cheaper as far as postage goes?

I have bought all of my Japanese CDs from them (Ray Mizutani answers the emails) and their service is great. Like Hiroshi, they can get anything that's in print, and they carry some stock, too.

Mundo's prices are considerably higher than Hiroshi's, and their shipping rates are much higher too. Mundo's exchange rate is 1,000 yen = $1, while the current rate is 1,000 yen = $0.93. Mundo's JRVG price is $25, Hiroshi's price of 2,500 yen equals about $23.30 at the moment.

Dank u zeer, Hans!

It seems that I have been forking out a bit too much. Still, I have not bought a huge number of these CDs, and Ray is very fast and courteous.

I have just ordered a couple of JRVG to Hiroshi. The guy seems friendly, competent and prices are very competititve too.

For those who were worried about payment methods, he accepts Paypal now. Thanks for your advice J.A.W!

Hiroshi is the best. I can testify to that. And if it comes to an RVG vs. a JRVG, I'll take the latter, thank you. However, if you throw a VICJ into the mix, it's no contest, VICJs all the way.

I believe they're high end remasterings of some of the fantasy catalog. Here's a list of some. I don't have any myself, but their reputation is impeccable.

Sorry Brad you have lost me! What is VICJ?

VICJs are 20-bit K2 remastered CD reissues by Victor Japan of Riverside, Prestige and Contemporary albums, mostly in mini-LP cardboard sleeves.
