BruceH Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I missed this when is was shown on BBC America, but it's been getting such raves I'm wondering how it stacks up on DVD? Quote
John B Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 fantastic! If you are a fan of British Comedy you should grab these. I have heard that they are releasing the Christmas special later this year. You might want to wait and see if they will be releasing a complete set for Christmas. Quote
GloriousBlues Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I watched the whole 1st season on DVD. That's some great TV...a sitcom that's actually funny and it doesn't have a laugh track. Quote
Use3D Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Yeah I've heard good things about this show. Now that the DVD is out quality rips will be appearing on the internet, hoho. :rsly: Quote

BFrank Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Thursday, Saturday & Sunday (10/21,23 & 24) is the new 2-hour special on BBC America. The Office BE THERE! Quote
DTMX Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 The DVD is great, and after watching the whole season (which is maybe eight episodes) you can watch a documentary about the ideas behind the concept and casting choices. Some friends recommended this show to me and I was floored by it - watched everything at one sitting. Quote
John B Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 (edited) The 2 hour special on BBC America, that is. Edited October 21, 2004 by John B Quote
l p Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 in the tv guide, this weekend's special is allotted 3 hours, maybe because of commercials. this show, and fawlty towers - the only excellent comedy to come out of the u.k. Quote
catesta Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 this show, and fawlty towers - the only excellent comedy to come out of the u.k. Are you crazy? Quote
l p Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 this show, and fawlty towers - the only excellent comedy to come out of the u.k. Are you crazy? no, it's called having taste. now go back to listening to your stan getz and zoot sims. of course people will say 'monty python'. well, out of like a 2-3 hour tape of skits, you'll get one or two good skits. those are not good odds. but you, catesta, are probably talking about the show that's on all the time on pbs late night. department store, all old people working there, the women wearing various colored wigs. funny stuff? Quote

My list would include: The Young Ones Monty Python (other than the 4th season) Fawlty Towers Blackadder Absolutely Fabulous I'm sure I'm forgetting a few more. Quote

Yeah, limited, or no taste. I see you've not changed a bit. Still think the white man can't play jazz, Jaco being the exception of course. Quote

I believe the first hour is a replay of the final part of the second season, where David gets the axe. Quote
Shrdlu Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 My son showed me some. I'd rather watch paint dry, or, almost, watch soccer! Quote
JohnJ Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 l p, so you have watched every British comedy series have you? Quote
sidewinder Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 This series is not bad but gets the award for being way over-rated, IMHO. 'Father Ted' and 'Blackadder' are much funnier and have stood the test of time. By far the funniest thing about 'The Office' is that it is set in that soul-less jazz-free outer London concrete jungle land called Slough and that the sister branch of the firm is in the equally awful Swindon ! 'young ones' is just that - for young ones. i can't see a 40-50 year old person admiring that show. i will check out 'Absolutely Fabulous'. a big problem with 'the office' is that half of it is just filler. when david brent is not on screen, there is no comedy. gareth sometimes picks up the slack, but rarely. Guy Berger Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I finally got through the British version. Excellent stuff. I found the Special to be somewhat disappointing, though it was necessary to tie some loose ends. Next up: the American version. Probably not as good as the UK one, but very funny nonetheless. "Diversity Day"! Guy ps I can't believe they managed to record this scene without bursting into laughter. Quote

There always seems to be a general, knee-jerk reaction to proclaim the British version of anything "better" than the American one, but that's definitely not the case here. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I like them both. . . possibly the US one a bit more. . .and mainly because i've worked in US offices! Quote
