I'm just sick of the fucking honkers and loud ass painful sounding saxophonists out there. It's like all they listen to are saxophonists, and they don't know a thing about beauty.

...true beauty is often disguised by our own prejudice.

This might be a bad place to mention, I don't like saxophonists that much.

Not sure if I've ever heard these words uttered by a jazz fan before!

I like a limited amount of players. I love Desmond, Mulligan, Turrentine, Rollins, Mobley, etc. Just seems most players are just trying to sound like Trane so that their sound is actual no where near as good, but very unoriginal. I mainly listen to guitarists, pianists, vibists, organists, etc. Can't think of one modern tenor player at the moment I really do love.

None of these instruments have the natural tonal palette or dynamic range that a reed or a brass can have. Not loving any contemporaries is one thing, but writing off saxophones altogether is... wow. I think most everyone here loves the instruments you listed above. A lot of people on this board even play those instruments, but I don't think many would step up to say that ANY of those instruments (without mechanical effect) is as personally expressive as a saxophone. Note choice is but a small part of what makes a reeds player great.
