GA Russell Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Well, you guys have persuaded me that I should go with Nero to burn CDs for my car. Now I see that the Nero 6 Ultra costs $70-80, while something called Nero OEM Suite costs only $5 from Amazon. Does anybody know the difference? My only interest at this stage is burning CDs for my car. If the OEM Suite will do it with Nero's benefits, I'm wondering if the Ultra version offers all sorts of DVD-burning abilities I have no need for. Anybody know? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Damn. They raised the price on that program. I bought mine for $40 back in the day (online from the Nero site). I haven't kept up with the releases. I have version 5.5 and it works fine so I just stick to it. Quote
Shrdlu Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Jim, did you know that they give you free upgrades (if you need one)? I think the way it works is that once you have your foot in the door, you get the free upgrades. In our case, we had an early version that worked with 98 but not XP. We got a free upgrade that did work with XP. Go here, if interested. Quote
Claude Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 (edited) Updates within versions (5.0 --> 5.5) are free, but upgrades to a later version (5.x --> 6.0) are not. If you have an earlier version, you get a cheaper upgrade price. If you don't need a retail version with CD-Rom and printed manual, you can just buy a serial number and unlock the 30 day trial download version, and save a few bucks. But the website is confusing, because they are offering different products for the US/Canada/Mexico and the rest of the world: https://secure.nero.com/en/secure.asp https://secure.nero.com/us/secure.asp Edited October 5, 2004 by Claude Quote
