jlhoots
You've got Coventry and Birmingham as well, right? I'm finishing up the second disc right now, but believe me, Coventry and Birmingham are getting added to my list tonight! They're all great. For some reason Birmingham is my favorite. J Larsen
Apparently there is ANOTHER big Anthony Braxton box set coming out - this one is a DVD set with 6.5 hours of music: http://www.rastascan.com/catalog/brd060.html
papsrus
Great thread ... haven't read all of it but I especially enjoyed JH Deely's synopsis of the Braxton lunch with the yahoo group. Braxton is one of a limited number of current musicians who'd have to be considered in the genius category, IMO. I have a good selection of his stuff, including the Dortmund disc, Montreux-Berlin, the three quartet discs from the British tour with Crispell, Hemingway and Dresser and the Iridium 2006 box, which is amazing, joyful music. Anyways, great to read through some of this. Cheers!
GregK
Apparently there is ANOTHER big Anthony Braxton box set coming out - this one is a DVD set with 6.5 hours of music: http://www.rastascan.com/catalog/brd060.html This one has been talked about for a couple of years now; it was supposed to come out in 2005, I believe. It's actually not a box, it's just one DVD, with no video content. They are putting it out on DVD because the format can hold more music than a CD, so instead of a box of 6 or 7 CDs, it's all on one DVD. Putting this on a DVD is a pretty cool idea (even though my cd player has higher quality audio output).

7/4
There's an article in the Oct. 2007 Downbeat. about what? Anthony Braxton. Amazing... I haven't read Down Beat in ages. Maybe it's time to take another look. Until last month I was getting for free (through a newsstand distributor, not the publisher), now I go to the library. It starts with his in store CD signing at DownTown Music Gallery, then a discussion about his Ghost Trance music and a bit of bio.

Chuck Nessa
"Take a chance. If everything works, it's probably not right." Outstanding! This quote reflects something I said in another thread. Remember Jason?
Alexander Hawkins
I think that this should be a fundamental adopted by all musicians! Reminds me of somewhere else in that documentary, where he says something to the effect that if you know what the 'it' is, then 'it's not 'it' anymore... p.s. also a first cousin to Misha's approach - a funny quote from Han Bennink in the Wire sometime a few issues back (I forget, I don't really read it much) to the effect that Misha wasn't happy unless something was fucking up.
