AndrewHill
I've only listened to that Berlin/ Montreux album once (the first Lp). Planning on spinning the second one soon. I like the group w/ George Lewis quite a bit. Lewis is a motherfucker on trombone and matches Braxton's level of virtuosity, IMHO. Lewis blew me away on Dortmund '76. That band with Holland/Lewis/Altschul was a mofo.

AndrewHill
I can't get enough of AB, and as mentioned earlier, the good and the bad. For example, The Braxton House 'Music for Puppet Theater' is pretty unusual, but I still find it interesting.
Teasing the Korean
I just picked up the double live album on Arista/Freedom. Haven't spun it yet; how is it? I *think* side 4 is with an orchestra, but I'm not sure. If so, that should be interesting.
B. Clugston
Side 4 of Montreux/Berlin is Braxton and George Lewis with a chamber orchestra and its excellent. One of Braxton's best albums. I've been considering getting this one, from 2006: I haven't read too much about it. Does anyone here have any comments on this set? It’s a great one, particularly the two creative orchestra discs. It’s not centred on Ghost Trance Music (though there are GTM moments) and it’s nice to hear old favourites such as 96 and 134.

Nate Dorward
It's OK: Braxton plays well; I'm not crazy about Fine but he doesn't wreck things. It's also nice to hear an all-improv session from Braxton; I wish he'd do more of those.

paul secor
Interesting story, but the fact that Braxton's horn was stolen wasn't so good.

B. Clugston
Speaking of stolen horns, this from Leo Records: "A double CD recorded at the Glasgow's Centre for Contemporary Art four days after the series of performances at Phonomanie VIII in Ulrichsberg, Austria (Leo Records CD LR 468/471). On the inside photo one can see Anthony Braxton playing bass saxophone. However, very unusually, Anthony only payed alto saxophone in Glasgow. His rare f-alto was stolen from the luggage on the trip from USA to Austria, and his baggage with his sopranino and soprano was lost on the way from Austria to Glasgow. It was delivered only after the performance. Such events could devastate any musician, but not Braxton. The members of his trio are Taylor Ho Bynum on cornet, flugelhorn and trumpbone, and Tom Crean on guitar."
GA Russell
I never thought I would be posting to the Anthony Braxton thread! Our local paper the Raleigh News & Observer each day lists celebrities' birthdays. I know I'm getting old as more and more of these celebrities are people younger than me whom I have never heard of. Most of the celebrities are Hollywood or young rock types, but today they listed Anthony Braxton, age 62! I thought he was older than that.
