AmirBagachelles Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Georgeous, sparkling, I grabbed it for the tuner (which is splendid) and because it has a pre/power bridge on the backplane, but if the whole thing will run I might re-create my old college-era system (w/ large Advents, Thorens, and this whale, though I had an old Scott tube receiver). The pre-amp does works fine, nothing though from the power section, and I can't get the fuse out, because the philips-head hole is stripped. A few questions: Any suggestions for extracting this fuse? If it won't power speakers after I replace the fuse, should I bag the power amp? Would it be prohibitively costly to fix? Thanks, Dan Quote
Leeway Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 Can't help you with the technical questions, but you might try the "Vintage" forum over at www.audioasylum.com Audio Asylum Vintage Gear But it's a nice coincidence that you mentioned trying to recreate your old system. Today, I picked up a pair of AR-2ax speakers, $1.00 for the pair, and I was thinking of doing the same, but thinking I needed to get a vintage receiver for the right sound. Your Pioneer would do nicely ! I have a lot of vinyl and was thinking I needed an old acoustic suspension speaker to get that "vinyly" sound that I grew up with. I'll have to scout around for a good receiver. Quote
Z-Man Posted October 3, 2004 Report Posted October 3, 2004 Before you scrap it, you might want to call Ryan at Audio Classics in Vestal, NY for a repair estimate. Audio Classics They are a great bunch of people, and quite knowledgeable about all things vintage. Quote
