EKE BBB Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 How many Chronogical (sic) Classics do you have? Just curious! Me I´ve been surprised that I only have about 60 of them. Now I realize that´s because, for some of my favorite artists, I haven´t followed the Classics way (Ellington, Basie, Bessie, Jelly Roll, King Oliver, Satchmo, Lady Day...). Quote
Tjazz Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Me I´ve been surprised that I only have about 60 of them. Only 78 Quote
LAL Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Have about 100, 70% of which are Duke, Artie Shaw, Louis and Fletcher Henderson discs. Gonna add a half dozen more when the more recent Bechet discs arrive. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Ah! Now I see why everyone else has more CDs than I do! One, a Cab Calloway for St. James Infirmary. Though I've got to get those Fletcher Henderson discs! Quote
brownie Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 About 140. Not counting the dozen Classics Blues & Rhythm Series. But counting the latest two I bought today: - Benny Goodman 1946, - Artie Shaw 1946-1950. Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Do you guys carry tiny lists around (font-size 4 to 6) so you don't by accident buy one you have already? Quote
brownie Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Do you guys carry tiny lists around (font-size 4 to 6) so you don't by accident buy one you have already? I try to keep track and have a notebook where I list purchases. But it's not complete which is why I bought a Classics (Fletcher Henderson 1937-1938) today because I knew I had very little Classics from the FH band and thought I did not have that one. When I got home, I found that among the three I had, I already had it. So if anyone is interested in a copy of that one, just PM me! Quote
jazzbo Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I have several hundred Classics. Quote
EKE BBB Posted September 29, 2004 Author Report Posted September 29, 2004 I have several hundred Classics. That´s a very precise figure, Lon! Quote

jazzbo Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I don't have or keep precise counts! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 How many of you Classics collectors are buying the Neatwork companion cds? I have about a dozen of them so far. Quote
Brad Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I probably have about 70 or so. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 I think I have five Neatworks, two Eddie Condons, three Basies. Very nice combination! Quote
Tjazz Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Do you guys carry tiny lists around (font-size 4 to 6) so you don't by accident buy one you have already? Usually a WANT list 8 1/2 x 11 prints. Quote

Spontooneous Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 About 50 Classics for me. Want many more. Yes, I do carry a list of what I have. Quote
Peter F Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 Strangely enough I have exactly 100 Classics. Peter F Quote
RDK Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Wow. I've only got a handful - less than ten maybe.. Quote
LAL Posted September 30, 2004 Report Posted September 30, 2004 Do you guys carry tiny lists around (font-size 4 to 6) so you don't by accident buy one you have already? Yes but only after I bought a couple of duplicates last year. Now all Classics discs are listed in a notebook which is referred to before making any new purchases. Have all the Duke Neatworks. Didn't really need Vol.1 but got it for the sake of "completeness". Quote

king ubu Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Three Classics (Bennie Moten, Jelly Roll Morton, Andy Kirk) and one Neatwork (Hawk) - all picked up used. Of course I'd like to have several hundred... Quote
mikeweil Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 Same here, only a few, as I have extended collections of Duke or Jelly Roll etc. on other labels. But I'd like to have many others, of course. The ones I have I got because I really needed them : Lucky Thompson 1944-1947 Kenny Clarke 1946-1948 Edgar Hayes 1937-1938 (for Kenny Clarke) Jess Stacy 1935-1939 Gerald Wilson 1945-1946 (oh how I wish there was another volume!)
