LAL Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Probably in the region of 1600-1700. Would have surpassed 2000 if not for a depreciated currency vis the $US. About 10% of these are still in their plastic wrap. I probably have too many but the want, no, need list keeps growing. :rsly: Quote
wolff Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I have about 30-40 jazz ceedees. I usually just buy BN titles from BMG now and then. Quote

Christiern Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 How did he manage to get away with 5000 CDs? A former neighbor whom I had known for 20 years. I let him stay in my apartment while I was out of town, and he apparently made many trips past my doormen. I didn't know about his problem. BTW he also took about 100 DVDs, but none of my audio or computer equipment. Quote
ajf67 Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I haven't counted, but I am reminded of what Senator Gramm of Texas once said about shotguns, that he owned "More than he needed but less than he wanted." Same applies to me with music, although much of my purchasing is in LP form. Quote

EKE BBB Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I have had close to 5000 CD stolen from me by a crack addict, including some of my favorite boxed sets. So I am down to 5 or 6000, but--except for the odd one that somehow escaped their fingers--all my Bird, Trane, Duke, Louis, Billie, Sarah, Basie, Jelly Roll, Waller discs are gone. Sorry to read this, Chris! This must have been a terrible blow for a music lover like you. Quote
Big Wheel Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Only 280--I know the exact number because I just finished cataloging them. That doesn't include an additional 50 or so that are in the 9 box sets, though. Quote
EKE BBB Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 My jazz/blues collection is now in the 2.000-2.500 interval. Quote

jazzbo Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I like that quote "More than I needed, less than I wanted" . . . I guess I own "more than I need, less than I want, and about as many as Sangrey's posts" . . . Quote
Stefan Wood Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Too damn much, and more coming in. 5k + Quote
MartyJazz Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Just under 2,000 jazz CDs (over 2,000 if you count each CD of a 2, 3 or 4 CD issue), 65 CD boxed sets, and over 5,000 jazz LPs. I'm trying to figure out a way to take it all with me when I'm gone. Quote
Bright Moments Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Aw marty, i'll watch 'em for you! me about 3500. Quote
JohnS Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 Getting on for 1800, but box sets count as one so it's nearer two thousand. Quote
neveronfriday Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I don't listen to jazz. Quote
catesta Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I don't listen to jazz. Same here, but I do have over 1000 copies of "Unleashed in the East". Each one is better than the other. Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 About 1,500, of which 150 haven't been listened... I will listen to them before I die. Quote

AfricaBrass Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 I had around 3200 CDs when I last was able to look at them and estimate (about 2 years ago). Now, about 99% of them are in storage, and I have about 40 CDs to listen to (except for my mp3 player which is loaded up). It's weird, not having my collection around has helped me slow down my purchases. Actually... Not having a job has done a LOT more to slow down my purchases. Oof! :rsly: Quote
tonym Posted September 23, 2004 Report Posted September 23, 2004 This is funny because I've never actually kept count, but having spent the last month filling my iPod up (that is going to hold about 450 albums), I've realised that I must have well over in jazz releases. The iPod is currently about 80% jazz, which is probably similar to my collection in general. I haven't even thought about which Stax and Motown I'm going to put on Quote
