minew Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 What would you take? Space is definitely limited. Had to flee Ivan from N.O. to Houston this week. Faced with and early Tuesday A.M. decision, I chose to take that which would be hardest to replace which ended up being 'Free'(labels like Nessa, Eremite, FMP, AUM, Leo, Hat, etc.) and Trad (labels like Frog, Retrieval, Timeless, (old) JSP, etc.). How would you decide? BTW, crazy shit about those bike locks and the pens, huh? Quote
Noj Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 The hell with evacuation, if I can't get it all out I'm going down with the ship. Quote
Quincy Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Not living in hurricane or tornado country the most likely emergency would be fire. If I was grabbing discs I used to joke that I'd hurriedly grab something in the D section (Davis & Dolphy.) If I missed right I'd come up with some Ellington so that'd work too. I might pick the letter M now (Mingus, Marsh, Monk.) Hmm, M for Mosaic? I doubt I'd really have time to be grabbing music in a fire unless the cat is very cooperative. And even in that case, it's best to get the hell out of there fast. But for a hurricane evacuation I'd probably do what you did. It would be tempting to take something loved but not hard to replace like the Coltrane Village Vanguard set. Ugh, if space is a concern do you just take the Mosaic discs, try to take the booklet too but not the box? Eek, that's why I don't live down south! Glad for ya that you were able to go home & reunite your discs with each other! Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 Real sorry to hear about all of you suffering with the hurricanes, Minew. Praying for you all. What's this about bike locks and pens? Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 When I first moved to south Florida, we had Floyd bearing down on us before it decided to move north. At that point the collection wasn't half what it is today, and considering how close to the ocean my apartment was (not half a mile from the boundary of the evacuation zone) I spent maybe two hours boxing up the CDs and getting them in the car, which turned out to be the same two hours that Floyd started his big turn away from us, and I spent another two hours getting them out of the car and back in the racks. Since then, having expanded the collection and changed storage mediums to a binder system, I am secure in the knowledge that should a hurricane be on its way, I wouldn't have to make the agonizing choice of which babies to save. minew Posted September 18, 2004 Author Report Posted September 18, 2004 (edited) Real sorry to hear about all of you suffering with the hurricanes, Minew. Praying for you all. What's this about bike locks and pens? Thanx. The worst we felt here was ass pain from sitting in traffic. Friends in Pensacola were not so lucky. While posting, I heard a news story, unrelated, about how almost all bicycle U-locks can be easily opened with a plastic Bic ball point pen. The locks are basically useless now. connoisseur series500 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 I'd be interested in packing other more important stuff than cds... Quote
minew Posted September 28, 2004 Author Report Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) I'd be interested in packing other more important stuff than cds... Not to worry. First we packed the bongs, then we packed the cds. Edited September 28, 2004 by minew Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 As far as cds are concerned, I'd grap all my JRVG mini-lps. Easy to carry! Quote
