catesta Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 So who'll be the first person to come up with 1) who Zappa played with, who recorded with Miles, AND 2) who Zappa played with, who recorded with Coltrane. Alice Cooper. Quote
JSngry Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Sal Marquez would be the Miles connection. Quote
JSngry Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Excuse me, I was thinking Chuck Findley. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Number 1. would be Victor Feldman. Quote
7/4 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Frank Zappa. Oh hell, I should come clean. I was posting the "Miles and Coltrane" hint before I saw this post from 7/4. It was Zappa. Here's where I found it. OK, so 7/4 got the answer. ("Yeah 7/4!!!! ) PS: The second I saw 7/4's "Zappa" post, I PM-ed him real quick to delete it. But it was up there to long to let this drag on that much longer, without somebody in the end saying -- "Hey, didn't somebody already say Zappa???" I saw this before I saw the PM. Sorry. I was trying to think of a famous rock musican who paints, thought of Beefheart, but he's not that famous. Then I remembered that my friends mother was a Special Ed. teacher and Frank was one of her students. She has one of his paintings. I've never seen it. Quote

couw Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 not "told you 'bout the anchovis" George DUKE! ? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) Archie Shepp! http://www.science.uva.nl/~robbert/zappa/a...chie_Shepp.html Correct, about the Coltrane connection. Now how about Miles?? Edited September 17, 2004 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 George Duke. Actually, George Duke wasn't who I was thinking of. George Duke is a better answer than mine (a more 'obvious' one), but it wasn't the one I was thinking of. So, Sangry -- you got both connections. (YEAH!!! ) BUT, your NEW challenge is to find another connection between Frank and Miles. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) Victor Feldman Link Edited September 17, 2004 by sidewinder Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Victor Feldman Link OK, I wasn't think of Victor Feldmen either. But a 'gold star' for Sidewinder: Another one, please. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Sting. Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. Thanks for playing, everybody. Wish I had gotten that "Miles and Trane" hint in before 7/4 got the answer. I think that would have gotten people thinking about the jazz-side of things -- and would have kept people away from guessing Zappa as quickly. Round of drinks for everyone!!!! Quote
couw Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Round of drinks for everyone!!!! Rooster's gonna buy yez a drink! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 [BUT, your NEW challenge is to find another connection between Frank and Miles. Zappa didn't really do that many drugs, from everything I've read. He probably tried a number of things, perhaps a time or two each. But other than chain-smoking, I think he was pretty straight. Yeah, he probably drank, but probably not to excess. He was too much of a workaholic for drugs. …again, from what I've read. Quote
7/4 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 That was a lot of fun! But guessing Zappa quickly? It isn't exactly common knowledge that he painted at some point. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) That was a lot of fun! But guessing Zappa quickly? It isn't exactly common knowledge that he painted at some point. Certainly not common knowledge, that's for sure. I never knew he painted until I stumbled on the page. But I was sure I could yank all you guys along for another day or so, if I had gotten that Miles and Trane hint in earlier. To your GREAT credit, 7/4, you got it NOT by random guessing, but by having some personal knowledge of the artist in question. (And some personal connection to his obscure artwork too!!!) BRAVO!!!!!
