Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) Here is a mystery painting, by a famous musician who's music is known to everyone here on this board (or damn near everyone)... Guess who painted this!! If nobody can guess within a day or two, I'll post the year that it was painted as a first hint (which should at least narrow things down a tiny bit). doubleM Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Does the sig. say Byron? Is it Don Byron? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Does the sig. say Byron? Is it Don Byron? Nope, not Don Byron. I wouldn't focus too much on the sig., cuz as far as I can tell -- it bears little resemblance any name that I would associate with the musician in question (or at least not that I can tell). Quote
doubleM Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 OK, one more guess....Ornette? I'll quit for this round if I'm wrong! Quote
ejp626 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Well, I'm thinking horn player active in the 60s. Maybe Ornette's bud, Don Cherry? Quote
wesbed Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) Lyle Mays? Edited September 20, 2004 by wesbed Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 Not Lyle Mays. I'm off to bed. See you all in the morning... Quote
B. Goren. Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Marion Brown??? I know he used to paint. Quote
doubleM Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I can't stand the suspense!! Quote
kenny weir Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Art Farmer? Art Tatum? Art Taylor? Quote
Free For All Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I'm off to bed. See you all in the morning... Oh, you're just loving this, aren't you? Quote
alankin Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I'm just going to guess the time period. Late 1950s? Early 1960s? Quote
bertrand Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Wayne Shorter has paintings out there, but it doesn't look like his style at all. Bertrand. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Looks like a baritone to me... Pepper Adams? Arthur Blythe? Ronald Cuber? (is that his name?...) Quote
Clunky Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Miles used to paint, ? doesn't look like his style Art Pepper? Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 I'm just going to guess the time period. Late 1950s? Early 1960s? Alankin's got the time-period dead to rights. Nobody's got the artist yet. Quote
Dmitry Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I'm not impressed by this painting, but anyway - is it Bill Dixon's? Quote
Dmitry Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Jutta Hipp? This is not Hipp's style, imo. I have 3 of her water-colors. Quote
DTMX Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 I think Anthony Braxton has played the instrument on the left. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 17, 2004 Author Report Posted September 17, 2004 (edited) Not really a 'hint' as such, but this will narrow things down a tiny bit more... The artist was roughly "college age" at the time when the painting was painted. (Whether he or she went to college, or was in college at the time – I won’t say. Yet.) Edit: Nobody's got it yet, as of this post. Edited September 17, 2004 by Rooster_Ties Quote
