couw Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 saw that new version of "Das Boot" on some home theatre set up and woa! LOTs of water everywhere man...! this is one notch more spookier than the presence of Herbert Grönemeyer alone... Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I suggest "Bette Gets Spanked" - be sure to get the surround sound version. Quote
JSngry Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 I second Chuck's recommendation for the surround sound edition. You WILL be Bette's butt! Quote
jacknife Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 My vote for the best kick ya in the chest surround sound movie is by far...Lord Of The Rings - 2 Towers in DTS. Be careful, this movie will make yer subwoofer scream for mercy! Quote
Noj Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Two Towers DVD Audio - my friends Jesse in New Line Home Entertainment and Brandt at Mi Casa Studio are responsible for that quality! Quote
Free For All Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Couldn't resist, Johnny! Quote
Dave James Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 We've had a surround sound system for about three years. Whenever I want to demo it for someone, I show them the first few minutes of "Top Gun" or the scene by the T-Rex paddock from the first "Jurassic Park". I'm sure there are better sounding DVD's out there, but neither of these has let me down. Up over and out. Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 What about the campfire/beans scene in Blazing Saddles; did they manage to get that one right on the five track Dolby? If so that's gotta be right up there, perfect application for rear channel. Quote
7/4 Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 Couldn't resist, Johnny! nice... Quote
wesbed Posted September 16, 2004 Report Posted September 16, 2004 And please make it a movie I can watch, not some stupid ass Bruce Willis blow em' up shit. I don't have a movie to recommend. But, your comment made me laugh. It sounds like a comment I would make. Quote
marcoliv Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 the first battle scene of Saving Private Ryan is fantastic too for a test Marcus Quote
Shrdlu Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 And please make it a movie I can watch, not some stupid ass Bruce Willis blow em' up shit. I second that, Johnny. No more explosions, choppers, "Sarah Conner", etc. I would recommend "Catch Me If You Can". We have our VCR hooked up to the surround hifi, and that movie was a treat with that setup. The orchestra sounds great, and there is a superb alto (sax) playing a difficult chart in the early 20th century French style. The story, mainly true, is intriguing, too. Quote
Free For All Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 there is a superb alto (sax) playing a difficult chart in the early 20th century French style. I agree, great music. The alto soloist is Dan Higgins, who happens to be a graduate of North Texas. I'll bet Sangrey knows him, or can speak eloquently of him. Quote
mikeos Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Soundtrack of "The Right Stuff" is still pretty amazing. Quote
dsgtrane Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 How about "Jurassic Park". You'll think a t-rex is in the room with you. Quote
.:.impossible Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 So, how does it sound?! Are you enjoying it? Do you listen to any of the DVD-A or SACD discs? Quote
AmirBagachelles Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 What about the Bob Roberts DVD? So much irony and informed viewpoints to come at you from so many room angles. Or you could just wait to demo the Dead movie DVD when it comes out in November. Quote
Johnny E Posted September 20, 2004 Author Report Posted September 20, 2004 So, how does it sound?! Are you enjoying it? Do you listen to any of the DVD-A or SACD discs? I am totally amazed at how much you get with this unit for so little cash!!! I have watched Kill Bill Vol. I & II, Baadassss! and Spider Man. It fills my entire living room with moving and shifting sound! I have listened to the Residents DVD "Icky Flix" which has a number of videos in 5.1 surround and it is amazing. I have Zappa's Halloween DVD Audio disc somewhere but it's still packed away from my recent move and I haven't been able to find it yet. Regular CD's sound great, AM/FM wonderful. I really can't believe that I got what I got at such a low price. Thanks for the tips all, I'm a happy camper. Panasonic SC-HT700 from Tech for Less for $154.00!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Johnny E Posted September 24, 2004 Author Report Posted September 24, 2004 Just watched 'Master and Commander - The far Side of the World' last night.... I still can't believe that you can get so much for so little these days! Quote
