Johnny E Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Just pickd this up in a used CD shop in Seattle. I been looking for it for a long long time. IS this thing rare or what? Quote
jazzbo Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Pretty much. Of course, now that you've gotten a copy, Blue Note has accelerated their reissue plans. Expect a Mosaic Select soon! Quote

Expect a Mosaic Select soon! Damn! But seriously, I've heard that some of the Pullen Blue Note stuff is rare. And this is the first time I've ever seen this CD, and I search the used shops daily. jazzbo Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 No seriously, I've not seen copies of that one after it went out of print; hard to gauge though because here in Austin you don't often see a lot of used jazz cds beyond the big reissues from the big names. (Then again, I'm not a diligent scourer so disregard what I say in this matter). I think a Mosaic Select IS planned, and it will be welcome. Quote
BFrank Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I picked up "Breakthrough" within the past couple of years. In the March 2004 Mosaic catalog (#53), Cuscuna mentions that there will be a Pullen/Adams Select set "later this year". Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 In my searches, both "Breakthrough" and "Song Everlasting" have been 2 of the rarest oop Blue Notes. Other rarities are the 2 Leo Parkers as well as James Newton's "Romance and Revolution". With the upcoming Mosaic Select release, I expect that these will start showing up in the used bins soon. They only have trade-in value until that Select comes out. Later, Kevin Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 That select is on for October I believe. Just go and play "Smoothie" really loud, Johnny, and it will all be OK. Then pop it on the eBay block and you'll get half the down payment for the box! Quote
kh1958 Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Breakthrough and Song Everlasting are two great CDs, which I wouldn't sell ever. Quote
