street singer Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I just ordered this one from Daedalus Books. Since it was only $6.98, I figured what the heck...especially with the lineup: Duke Pearson, piano & celeste. Harold Vick, saxophone. James Spaulding, flute & alto saxophone. Johnny Coles, trumpet. I'm unable to find any information on this album. Do any of you have it? If so, what's the verdict? or ? Or just ? Also, who's on bass and drums? They're not listed in the description. Thanks! Quote
ejp626 Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I also ordered this from Daedalus. It was pretty good, but not super memorable. I can't give you the details, since it is packed away, and you will probably have your copy before I get mine unpacked. But maybe I will add some further impressions later. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Details on all Duke Pearson recordings may be found on my website. Bob Cranshaw & Mickey Roker, in this case. Mike Quote
Shawn Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 It may not be a "mind blowing" date, but it is VERY fine and well worth the money involved. There are so few Pearson recordings that it's worth getting them all. Quote
street singer Posted September 11, 2004 Author Report Posted September 11, 2004 Thanks for the responses, guys. Looking forward to hearing this one! (And Mike, that's a great website that you've put together!) Quote
Brad Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I've always wanted to get this but for some reason never pulle the plug. I mean with Harold Vick, Johnny Coles and Duke, it's got to be good, right? Quote
JSngry Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 It's good. If you dig Pearson, you need to have it. Quote
Brad Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 It's good. If you dig Pearson, you need to have it. What if I mostly dig Vick? Quote
mikeweil Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 ... but only on one track with a lengthy solo (Soulin'). I'd recommend it - was my first Pearson, and I still enjoy it. Quote
Leeway Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Odd that this thread popped up, as I was just recently looking at the inner sleeve for my old vintage Led Zeppelin II LP on Atlantic, and my attention was caught by a promo picture for Pearson's "Prairie Dog" LP. Didn't realize it was on CD. Apparently Koch picked up the rights, but it was originally an Atlantic title. Same cover illustration. I think I will go for this one. I love looking at those old illustrated LP inner sleeves. Quote
