jazzmessenger Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 I will be in Seattle between September 30 and October 5. Are there any good jazz concerts while I am there? Good local jazz clubs? Quote
Guest ariceffron Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 30th thru 3rd is scofield trio w/ bill stewart at the jazz alley Quote
wolff Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 You'll just miss Christian McBride(sold out anyway). Here is good calendar. The Djangofest on Whidbey Island(nice 1.5 hour drive) would be a good bet for Sat/Sun. Tula's Oct calendar is not up yet. Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 8, 2004 Author Report Posted September 8, 2004 30th thru 3rd is scofield trio w/ bill stewart at the jazz alley I just saw this group at Indy Jazz Fest in July. So, I will pass this time. Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 You'll just miss Christian McBride(sold out anyway). Here is good calendar. The Djangofest on Whidbey Island(nice 1.5 hour drive) would be a good bet for Sat/Sun. Tula's Oct calendar is not up yet. I would love to see Christian McBride some day. I kind of feel some connection with him as he and I share the birhtday (in same year). I guess I have to wait for the next opportunity... Django Fest sounds interesting, but I don't think I can drive that far during the meeting. Thanks for the nice calendar! Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 Are there any good used CD stores in or near downtown? Quote
alejo Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 There are a few good shops close to Downtown in the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Everyday Music Address: 112 Broadway E Tele: (206) 568-3321 They have a pretty big selection of both new and used Jazz CDs and some Jazz LPs. CD or Disc Connection Address: Across the street from Everyday Music They Have a respectable used Jazz CD selection. Wall of Sound Address: 315 E Pine St, Seattle If you’re into more free/creative/experimental music this is the store for you. They sell both new and used CDs and LPs. I recommend checking this place out. Bud's Jazz Records Address: 102 S. Jackson St. Located in a basement on Jackson off of 1st Ave in the Pioneer Square area. Worth checking out, vinyl is a bit overpriced. Check out Elliot Bay Books while you're down there. Send me a PM or e-mail if you need any more information. Alejandro Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 9, 2004 Author Report Posted September 9, 2004 Thanks for the information, Alejandro! I really love digging into used CD bins and finding some OOP CDs. I wish I could still do that in Indianapolis... I am lookiing forward to my trip to Seattle! Quote
SGUD missile Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 Be sure to check the websites for Tulas, the Triple Door, and All About Jazz/Seattle in addition to the Jazz Alley site.. Buds records in Pioneer Square is a must see place! the food @ Tulas is pretty good ..the food @ the Wild Ginger ( above the Triple Door ) is wonderful! ( if you like Thai /Pan-Oriental stuff ) Quote
Shawn Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 A friend of mine owns a real good CD store on Broadway in Capitol Hill (real close to downtown). He also carrys some vinyl. Playback Music 111 Broadway East Seattle, WA Ask for Brad and tell him Shawn sent ya.... Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 12, 2004 Author Report Posted September 12, 2004 Looks like I have many good places to visit in Seattle. I can't wait to go there. Less than two weeks!!! Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 29, 2004 Author Report Posted September 29, 2004 Everyday Music Address: 112 Broadway E Tele: (206) 568-3321 They have a pretty big selection of both new and used Jazz CDs and some Jazz LPs. CD or Disc Connection Address: Across the street from Everyday Music They Have a respectable used Jazz CD selection. Well, I am finally leaving for Seattle tomorrow. I am planning to visit these two stores (also Playback Music that Shawn recommended). Is there any public transportation to that area from downtown? Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 29, 2004 Author Report Posted September 29, 2004 BTW, does anyone here have two extra tickets to the Mariners game on Saturday night? I want to see my countryman Ichiro while I am in Seattle. Quote
alejo Posted September 29, 2004 Report Posted September 29, 2004 The 43 is probably your best best to Cap Hill from Downtown. Here is a list of a few other routes that service that neighborhood: Seattle Metro Cap Hill Routes I forgot to mention a few other shops worth checking out in the lower Queen Anne Neighborhood. Easy Street Records and another CD Exchange type shop. I think Easy Street currently has their RVGs on sale for $7.99 as well as a pretty good jazz selection. To get their, take the 18 or 15 from 1st Ave heading North towards Ballard. It's a nice walk back to Downtown through the Belltown neighborhood--about a mile or so. Friday might be your best bet for Mariners tickets. Drop me an e-mail if you need any more info. Have a great time! Alejandro Quote
jazzmessenger Posted September 30, 2004 Author Report Posted September 30, 2004 Alejandro, Thanks for the transportation info!!! I am looking forward to seeing Seattle tomorrow! Quote
irbinchic Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Dimitriou's Jazz Alley, 2033 6th Avenue, Seattle WA 98121 Phone (206) 441-9729 | Fax (206) 443-8247 is a pretty cool place to check out! I'm new to the area (from Chicago) and have to check it out but I heard that it is a really nice place; my friend saw Tower of Power there. Lisa Quote
SGUD missile Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 Jazz Alley is very nice and features mainly name acts ..and is also quite pricey. For good local stuff, check out Tulas on 2nd Ave and the Triple Door on University and 3rd .. both have websites that show whos playing and good food as well .. Quote
jazzmessenger Posted October 6, 2004 Author Report Posted October 6, 2004 I didn't have as much free time as I expected while I was there (for a scientific meeting), but I managed to pick up a few CDs in Capitol Hill. I really loved the city. Great food and lots of nice stores. I would love to go back there soon. Quote
