BruceH Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 Has anyone mentioned that Lynyrd Skynyrd box from the early 90's? I don't have it myself, but I borrowed it from a library about 12 or 13 years ago, and seem to recall that it was very good. Quote
Aggie87 Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 Los Lobos - El Cancionero: Mas Y Mas - includes hits, great album tracks, live stuff, unreleased stuff, and side projects. A great summary. Funny: I was just playing "Just Another Band from East LA" (at least I think that's the title) an earlier box set. Is there any over-lap? BTW I just got to hear them at a concert in a vinyard where there was lots of room for dancing. They make a great bar band. There's alot of overlap between the two. I used to have the 2 disc compilation you've got, and really liked it as well. The bigger box is (obviously) more fleshed out, and continues up until 2000, whereas the 2 disc set ends at 1993. I'd go for the Mas & Mas box if you like Los Lobos. I also like their newest disc, The Ride. Gonna have to go back and check out Good Morning Aztlan now! Quote
Stefan Wood Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 I thought there was recently a 2 cds set of Staus Quo's "As and Bs singles" set, that covered their material up to the early 70's. I think I saw it online; I have never heard their music. Quote
vibes Posted September 13, 2004 Report Posted September 13, 2004 I picked up the recently released Black Sabbath box on Saturday, and it's well on its way to becoming my favorite rock box set - I've listened to the first four albums included so far. The music sounds great (at least, better than the previous issues I've heard), especially the drums. I haven't watched the DVD yet, but am looking forward to it. The booklet included is nicely done, with lots of information about the music and what inspired it. A lot of this stuff is new to me, since I was born after Sabbath's heyday, but I'm having fun with it. Highly recommended. Quote
chris olivarez Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I don't think anyone has discussed label boxes here: The only label box I have is the 2-CD Cobra box - at thetime it was the only way to get the Otis Rush master takes in one place. Other music on it is good, too. Ditto. Quote

chris olivarez Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Ghost who is that on your avatar? Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 Ghost who is that on your avatar? Jane Greer. I watched THE BIG STEAL again this weekend and am obsessed once more... she reminds me so much of my wife in that movie! I didn't realize until yesterday that THE BIG STEAL was Mitchum's "comeback" movie after the pot bust. Evidently much of the movie was filmed while he was still in jail. Quote
chris olivarez Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I can see why you would be obsessed Ghost. Thanks for the info. Quote
Big Al Posted September 14, 2004 Report Posted September 14, 2004 I don't have too many rock box sets, the only one I pre-ordered was the Buffalo Springfield, 'cause I simply love their music. I saw this at the library today and checked it out, never havin heard anything besides "For What It's Worth." I gotta say, the charm eludes me. Anything I'm missing, or something I should listen for? Not a knock, mind you; just curious! Quote

Not a knock, mind you; just curious! I really like the Buffalo Springfield: great songs; great harmony; a classic folk rock sound. What's not to like But, in the end, after all, it's a matter of taste. Give it another listen if you can. Quote
BruceH Posted September 15, 2004 Report Posted September 15, 2004 Jane Greer. You mean Kathie Moffat. I happened to see The Big Steal on TV recently. That film sure moves fast! Quote
Big Al Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Discovered the Hendrix box at my local library. This sucker just shot to the top of my MUST BUY PRONTO list!!!! I’m with Bev about the not being much of a fan of Hendrix. I can only take him in small doses. But this box proves me wrong! The version of “Bold As Love” is worth the price of admission alone!!!
