connoisseur series500 Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'm only buying the Larry Young, Andrew Hill, and Sam Rivers. I'll pass on the Silver and the Hutcherson. Got the Jack Wilson on JRVG, which is good enough for me! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 And I'll be disappointed if the Hill doesn't come with Couw's cover... Quote
ghost of miles Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Andrew Hill and Jack Wilson for me. Have the Rivers & Young as part of the Mosaic boxes, and want to learn a little more about the Horace & Hutch titles before picking them up... I liked IN PURSUIT OF THE 27TH MAN a lot. Quote
street singer Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'll be picking up all of these except the Silver, which I'll probably get at some point, but...I'm in no big hurry. These are all currently saved in my CDUniverse Wish List, along with the Albert Ayler Revenant box...OUCH!...that order's gonna hurt. Just waiting for the end of the month to pull the trigger... Can't wait! Quote
Peter Johnson Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hill & Hutch for sure, particular with the LA Phil sessions (that's a nice surprise to me!). Got the rest on wax! Quote
sjarrell Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Surely this "Connoisseur" concept is just about at the end of the run by now. There can't be all that much still to be re-re-issued. I could come up with a fat wish list, I'm sure Quote
Leeway Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 This is a great group of titles. I'll get all but the Wilson, which I already have. But at this point I can't figure out BN's reissue policy. For example, at least several former Conns are coming out as RVGs. One I'm really surprised to see make a re-appearance is "Little Johnny C"- which didn't do very well as a Conn and is now back as an RVG. There are others ( McLean's Destination Out comes to mind). Is it now about re-issuing re-issues? It also looks like all the stuff from the BN Mosaics are eventually finding their way into individual re-issues. Quote
montg Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Who's on the Hill record (besides, of course, Hill)? I'd look it up on AMG, but the new site aggravates me. Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Charles Tolliver, Joe Farrell, Victor Sproles, Billy Higgins. Mike Quote
Michael Fitzgerald Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Wasn't the Connoisseur concept supposed to be stuff that had NOT been (domestically) reissued before? I can understand their making exceptions for something like Sonny's Crib, where they fixed the takes. But are they abusing this concept and re-re-releasing anything? I hadn't thought so. That's what the RVG series is for..... Mike Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 (edited) I thought that the Hill [meaning "Dance With Death", which is coming out as a Conn on Oct. 5th] was to be included in a Mosaic Mistake 3 CD box. "Dance With Death" will NOT be included in the upcoming Andrew Hill Mosaic Select. Link: For the specific contents of the Andrew Hill Select (and related discussion), PLEASE GO TO THIS THREAD!!! <--- The complete discography for the Hill Select is now included at the very beginning of the thread found at this link, in the first post). Happy, Happy Day!!!! Edited September 4, 2004 by Rooster_Ties Quote
bertrand Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Rooster, Did Michael C. confirm that this is exactly what will be on the Mosaic select? It seems like there is more than 3 CDs worth of material. Thanks, Bertrand. Quote
montg Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Charles Tolliver, Joe Farrell, Victor Sproles, Billy Higgins. Thanks--that sounds great! Quote

Jazzmoose Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'll take the Hutch, Hill and Wilson (I never seem to pass on more Mogie...), probably eventually the Rivers as well. I dunno about the Silver, though; there's so much more Silver out there that I don't have and need to get... Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'll get them all eventually. . . to replace copies I have. . .but I wish they were RVGs! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I'll get them all eventually. . . to replace copies I have. . .but I wish they were RVGs! My wallet wishes they were RVG's, but I am totally understanding of Blue Note needing to charge more to release these kinds of sessions, since they are much more obscure, and of less "general" interest to the jazz-loving public. Wouldn't we all pay Import (Japanese) prices to get some of these on CD?? If so, then we should be willing to pay a few dollars more to get them as domestic issues. They're worth that much to me. And those specific titles that aren't, I simply won't buy. But in most cases (with only a few exceptions), the Conns are the titles I'm most excited about getting. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Hmmm...I just realized the wife's out of town the latter part of October. Might be time for one of those budget buster orders anyway...get a big box in the house and mixed into the CD shelves before she gets back... Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I understand the economics, and would even pay Connoisseur prices. . .to have them remastered by RVG rather than Ron McMaster. . . . Quote
J Larsen Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Where is Brooklyn? Very good question. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Got the Jack Wilson on JRVG, which is good enough for me! I'd toss that JRVG up on the block and get some big bux for it and then pick up the Conn. cause anything has got to sound better than that POS-pillow over your ears-JRVG. (I know the TOCJ does big time) Quote
