Rooster_Ties Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 (edited) Got two AOL CD's yesterday (both of them in some sort of damn "masonite/cardboard-on-steroids"-type box (very thick, very heavy), that took me like two minutes to figure out how to open), and then another one today -- this time in a damn "DVD-like" box. And I've gotten them before in tin-cans (at least three or four last time, like 6 or 8 months ago, if I remember right). How can I stop this shit???? I can't imagine anybody buying AOL when they send you dozens of CD's in the mail, in ever more environmentally-fucked-up packaging. Burn in hell, AOL!!! ( Whew, that felt good. ) Seriously, how can I stop getting this stuff?? How many trees and petroleum products were used to create the millions of CD's and packaging that AOL uses whenever they upgrade or decide to do some mega-promotion?? couw Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 they switched from jewel or whatever cases to plain cardboard long ago over here. probably 'cause people would buy spindles of blanks and take a pile of AOL disks for the jewel cases, using the disks as coasters or beermats. they are also great for making lamp shades. It looks like cardboard, but it's as heavy and solid as wood. I could maybe see making this stuff for things that were actually being sold. But for promotional products??? Why, pray tell, did you even take the time to open it? I got the same mailing. What I'd suggest you do is as I did: in a rage, fling the entire package against an inside garage wall. (Be sure your car is not in the garage.) 'Course, next day, the computer I ordered from Dell arrived with... AN AOL CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What we need is an AOL OPT OUT mailing list. Maybe if we'd all contact our Attorneys General? ON THE EDIT: By the way, after you've destroyed a few things in the manner described above, you'll be able to time your shouted curse to exactly coincide with the object hitting the wall. But then when I discovered that I couldn't open it, I simply had to figure out how to!! PS: I probably will save it, and use to send some discs to somebody some time. It looks like it would hold about 3 or maybe 4 CDR's (without jewelboxes, of course). Quote

Trade them on the web, get the rare ones before they are too expensive! I wonder with bulk mail type of things if you could put refused on package and stick it back in the mailbox???? Once the box is full, mail it to AOL with a note that says, "Hey, thanks for sending me your crap. Here's some of mine for you!" Quote
